Who is in for a bigger, bolder Spyderco?

With all the updates to steel, mechanisms, and just plain quality in Spyderco knives I want to see a big, meaty bowie folder or some more fixed blades like the Forester (awesome at 9 1/2 inches in blade length). Small is nice for kids and city dwellers. What about the working man in the outdoors on the weekend.

Who's with me in seeing the Big Spyder Factory unleash the big guns?

Sounds good to me! I'm always ready to see new model knives coming out! Especially from a company as great as Spyderco!,,,VWB.

You have to hit the target consumer. I am a big guy with large hands and a penchant to beat the heck out of my knives, and I am sure I am not the only one. Give me an even decent price for a hefty folder that I can slip into a back pocket and I am sold.

I'm pretty content with the Chinook I or Manix, but am always game for something new.

There's the manix and mini manix. What about MEGA Manix! 4 1/2 to 5 inch blade in choices of S30v, S60V, S90V and ZDP-189. Thicker liners than Manix by 20 to 30%. Larger pivot diameter by 30%. G10 handles with future options of Micarta and Carbon Fibre!

Lastly a 50% discount to all Bladeforum members. (75% for me cause I suggested it :))

I'd like to see some similar versions of the kriss blade or a hawk bill.with damascus or composite blades.also a bigger variety of handle material would be great:thumbup:

that was kind of a joke. i believe sal has discontinued the manix due to lack of sales or people wanting a big beafy folder or something.

When it comes to BIG knives, most opt for fixed blades.

Huge market, dominated by Busse, Cold Steel (like SRK), SOG, Falkniven (A-1), RAT and others ~ ; - )

I'm wondering what happened to the Tuff concept! No news from it at the A'dam meet. Hope it didn't get dropped.

I agree.
A five inch Chinook would be great, especially in CPM M-4.
(I could settle for CPM D-2)

The problem with fixed blades is, 1. they are prohibited in many areas. 2. they can be much more cumbersome to carry.

I think there is still place for a five to six inch workhorse folder in the knife world.

So that's why... Pity, I would definately be among the few to go for a large Spyderco folder, my current Manix is my pride and joy as my EDC and it makes me happy every time I hear the loud click of the lockback.

Maybe we could get Karnak to look into the future and see if this will happen. Naw, leave him alone. I get the feeling that Spyderco probably won't be putting out anything bigger than the Manix or Chinook anytime soon. Geez, what would the price be on something 30% bigger? I just don't see that helping sales at all.

It would be cool to have such a beast, but I think that producing such a thing would be an "uncool" business decision. Although, if it wasn't made of a premium steel, and perhaps produced at the factory that makes the Tenacious.....that would certainly reduce the cost to a manageable level.

Well, maybe one could start with the mega folder in the Byrd line, to see how it sells. But I am not sure if people that would buy a Mega folder would buy one from the Byrd line.

YESSS!!!! I love bowie style folders with beef! I have the SOG Tomcat, Chinook II and CQC13 from EKI. Awesome trio!!!

The Chinook is my favourite blade from Spyderco right now (still on the fence about the Millie) so I would definitely be in for a similar liner lock version of this great blade.

I would suggest Sal take a good look at the CQC13 - probably the greatest production folder of all time, except I would prefer it in a satin finish CPM S30V version.

That would be perfection for me.

However, the problem with a folding knife bigger than the Manix is that it is very cumbersome to carry. Pants pockets are only so big. At some point a folding knife doesn't fit into a pocket and still be robust so it would have to go on a sheath, or other external carry device.
