I don't want any feedback on him or opinions but I want to know what companies he is involved with. here is what I have heard but have not comfirmed.
he is behind bark river
he and ken warner are the guys behind black jack
he was president of marbles
he designed the becker brute for becker knife and tool and camillus

Why he is only the greatest mime killer of all time! Mimes fear to tread where Mike has been.:D:thumbup:

^ Not sure the exact years he was with Blackjack knives, but I think it was 1987 to around 1997, but I don't think they were producing much product from 1995-97.

He was then with Marbles from 1997 to 2001.

Afterwords, he started Bark River Knives.

Again, not positive, but I think even before Blackjack Knives, he was with Pacific Cutlery.

he was CEO of Blackjack in Effingham Illinois from founding in 1987 until they folded in 1997.
Ethan Becker designed the BK&T Brute in 1980 - and Blackjack produced knives for BK&T and Ek in the 90's.
He was VP at Marbles in 2000
He formed Bark River K&T

Mid 1980's- early 90's ran BlackJack, first as importer and contractor then as a actual maker.

Late 80's- early 90's- Early importer of Reeve Survival knives.

Early 90's- Gained control of Ek for a brief period. Also imported H.G. Long military replicas from England. Also owned Cripple Creek for a couple of years. Contractor for the original Becker line.

Late 90's- Early 2000's, Helped run and design the Marble's cutlery line.

2000's- Started Bark River Knife and Tool. Sub-contracts/ed For the New U.S. BlackJack lines, first under Ken Warner, then Blue Ridge knives.

Some things will need to be tightened up, and I probably missed a few companies, but that's what I remember:).

I think he moderates on a couple of knife forums also.

Mike is owner of BRKT. Their business model is to promote heavily on a dedicated forum associated with a BF competitor and sell through a few on line dealers. It seems to work well for him.

I was just curious if all I heard was correct. sounds like designing the brute is the only thing that isn't true.

Brilliant knife maker and designer... my finest knives are all from Mike Stewart's shops. Best heat treat that can be found, IMHO.

the people behind the knives are just as important if not more than the knives themselves and Mike has my money for life.

It's clear he's got some strong supporters. There are also some nay-sayers who I am sure will pop in for a word or two.

i own many production knives an see the owners on different web sites, just got into barkriver little over a year now,he is the only production owner who has ever answered all my P.M's an emails...i just talk to him 3 days ago,i told him the button on one of my knife sheaths came off,had the blade for a year,i wanted to BUY another one ,who covers sheaths ,he asked me for my address an just sent one out to me ,didnt cost me nothing not even shipping,,great knives, customer service,an products thats why i choose barkrivers,,,he made some mistakes, hell we all have....aloha

Well I'm a strong supporter and have the highest respect for Mike who contributes and moderates on another forum I frequent. I've found him to be very knowledgeable knifemaker with strong industry contacts, althoug he can be a trifle erascible at times (he doesn't tolerate fools gladly - but then neither does the inestimable Mr Bernard Levine). Mike doesn't just promote his knives - he frequently recommends an alternate brand and style if he believes it will be more suitable for the intended use.

BRKT knives are just brilliant and backed by a solid, no nonsense warranty. They cover a huge range of styles, shapes, sizes and handles and if you want to see some eye candy, log onto knivesshipfree.com and have a browse. Derrick at KSF supports BF and is a regular contributor here - he probably has the largest range of BRKT knives in stock. If you've never owned or used a BRKT, do yourself a favour and try one - the knives aren't cheap but IMO are underpriced and offer excellent value for money.

I will concur that Mike makes excellent knives. I own several BRKT knives and all are top notch. He is also as previously stated a nice guy to deal with.

I've never met Mike Stewart, but I do like his knives. In my opinion some are not perfect, but the important thing is that his no questions ask lifetime warranty impresses the hell out of me - which makes them worth every penny in my mind.

You may read some negative stuff about him on here and other forums, but to be honest I hate it when people air their dirty laundry in public. Most of it is here-say anyways, and frankly, it's really none of my business. If someone has a problem with him, they need to go through the proper channels and have it settled privately. End of story.

So long as he continues to make a quality product and stands be his warranty, that's good enough for me.
