I recently got an older fixed blade that is a custom. I was wondering if anyone knew of a maker that stamped their blades with a joined HC. I assume they are initials but I can't think of anyone with those initials. I know its a long shot but any help would be appreciated.

Howard Clark ? You'll have better chance if you post some pics of the knife.

I will post some later when I get home.

The combined H and C definitely reminds me of Howard Clark's signature. As I understand it, HC has 2 signatures. He uses one signature exclusively for his japanese style blades (katana, wakizashi, tanto, and the likes) and the other for his other fixed blades.

However, his newest signature is a joined H and C IN an anvil.

What you have is possibly one of his earlier pieces. You might want to contact Howard for a definite answer.

His contact info :

Again, this is just my theory. Good luck and don't forget to post your finding :D

Thanks Beluga! I emailed Mr. Clark and will let you know his response.

Howard's logo is an Anvil

If it is indeed Howard's work, then you are one lucky bastid :D

His knives are rarely found in the secondary market, and I don't think he still makes them regularly.
Now he mostly does japanese style blades, and some other knives very seldom.
I remember he made a couple of very nice straight razors a couple of years back, truly a work of a master. Wanted to get one, but fund did not allow at that time. :(

I had someone else tell me it may be Harold crisp or Harley Caruthers but I think Mr. Crisp has passed and I don't know how to contact Mr. Caruthers. I researced online and the Knives 2008 book showed a joined HC but it didnt show the name. I might try to find the book. I have the 2005 version and it doesnt show anything

If it happens to be Howard's work, it's going to be VERY early and one of first few......

Well I'll be dang! I recieved an email back and it is one of Howard Clarks knives. It was made in the late 80's to early 90's out of a GM spring. I guess sometimes you get lucky with trades!

Congrats my friend. You have a jewel in your possession. Enjoy it.
