Went deer and pig hunting in South Texas last weekend for four days with a group that has hunted together for several years.

We always manage to have some luck, and all of the animals are brought back to the cleaning rack. A few usually do the cleaning work while others "supervise."

Anyway, they use all kinds of different knives including a few "customs" with fancy scales.

This year, I had a few Phil Wilsons, and put them out on the table. I skinned, quartered, and trimmed a deer, and then did a pig. Then I went onto another deer. One guy looks and laughs and says, "no way can you use a knife after working on a pig." Well, the Phil Wilson (K294) worked right on through with ease, and I never once touched it up with anything. The guy is an experienced hunter and took notice. Then he and another picked up a Phil Wilson off of the table and gave them a try. They were saying, "hmmm….." "this is nice…" "damn nice…"

Finally, one of the guys looks up and says, "Who is this Phil Wilson?" :)

Props to Phil, the fan club grows. Truly the best of the best, and I have plenty of other fine knives for comparison.

What a joy and honor to own and use such fine craftsmanship.

I can agree. Good guy and great knives. He provided some input on one of my customs.

Texas boys can be a hard sell on anything new that does game better than any they have seen. Mr. Wilson is a legend in the custom knife making arena. He likes to experiment
with the high vanadium steels. He builds a high grade knife. DM

WHy did someone move this? It was in a correct topic. Unless it was moved to custom knives. DM

No surprise to me.

Years ago I had the same experience when a fellow hunter showed up with a Dozier, three whitetails and a muddy tusker later that knife was still cutting.

Some makers seem to transcend the sum of the parts they use.

One of Phil's fillet knives is on my bucket list.
