I've always been a fan of Kumar. He's probably my over all favorite kami. He made my first khuk, a 15.5" villager with real steel fittings (not the "white metal" kind that we see a lot of times these days). I also got one of his YCS' which is dang near flawless. he also made my powerful little khukrambit with the BEST chiruwa handle i have ever seen in bloody sandalwood. His handles just feel the best to me as they are usually overly long and not too big around.
I'm also a growing fan of Amtrak. I have a 12" siru by him that is just magical. He also did a flawless execution on a 20.5" 20.5 oz kobra that still ranks as one of my favorites. He had to have understood the design fully to creat this piece. It's light, but has a very thick convex edge that i would bet might be stronger than a thinner edged kobra like kumar makes.
Then there is Bura. I for one have never really jumped on the Bura bandwagon. I think he does good work, but i have never seen his pre-stroke work. To be quite honest, of all my khuks his are usually the most "flawed" with a choppy transition being made from the sweet spot to the tip. However, Bura makes some of THE hardest working khuks. As a matter of fact, i think just about every one of my working khuks, i.e. the ones I have bled and sweated with in the creation or destruction of something, are Bura made. My powerful 22" GRS that used to hack up several giant limbs after a storm, the nobel little Pen-Knife that has made every other camp knife i own pretty much useless, and of course my beloved AK bowie that has done everything from limb trees, to ride in my saddle bag making me feel safe, to ride in the car along as an emergency crash axe on slippery ruel winter roads. All created by Bura and perfect for what they were designed to do.
To sum it up, Kumar's work feels the best in my hands. Amtrak is well on his way to taking Kumar's place in my book. I will always trust my life to a Bura.
