  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Who is Your personal favorite custom knife maker?

I'm a big fan of Hiroaki Ohta. I know a lot of people here favor American makers, and makers that are members here, which I totally understand.

But my experiences with several forum-popular makers, while excellent, have not nearly equaled the communication, customer service nor fit and finish of Ohta-san.

It's hard to find good makers with a good reputation outside of the forums. Just look at feedback and how many "great" makers end up screwing every one of their customers out of the blue. Great one day, terrible the next.

I first started making knives to sustain our (wife at the time and myself) meth habit. If I was gonna screw someone over... I would have done it a long time ago.

Mine are Mark Knapp and Bruce Bump. Here are one of each of my collection. KT Terry

Favorite of all time? - Bob Loveless.

Favorite still around? Too numerous to choose. I couldn't pick my favorite child either.

I have had wonderful experiences with, many custom makers, (Too many to list, and I am afraid I might forget someone.) many of which have become friends with. Jim Harrison of Seamus Knives is the most current, and is fantastic to work with, and he makes amazing, amazing knives!! He made my Cracked Uber that I have posted, that you may or may not have seen. I LOVE his work so much!!

I'm loving my two knives from JoshRG. ( Joshua Gallardo )

I have to agree . I recently acquired two of his Pocket Buddies and really love the designs, attention to detail and quality!

And today....I just happened to stumble across this Curly KOA Bird N Trout on the Exchange just minutes after he posted it. I think I got pretty lucky, I doubt it would have been available long. I'm really looking forward to adding this one to the collection. He seems to be a great guy and does amazing work!

Oh yeah, and I have also recently acquired a Fiddleback and WAS addiction as well.... also amazing knives!

Dennis Cook of Dawson knives. Perfect communication, very easy to work with, very professional and great for keeping promise on timing for delivery.

Well, I don't own a thing by him and I'm not really a custom guy, but I'm going with Jerry Fisk. He heard I was sick and lusting after the White River production take on his classic Sendero so he offered to put his personal touch on it when I bought it and all I had to do was send it to him. I PMed him a thank you and he was incredibly generous and gracious. That pretty much made up my mind that I'm gonna set up a separate bank account and start a custom Sendero fund.

Also, the Sendero is sexy as hell, so there IS that.
