DELICIOUS!!! My guess is a dog did that sucker up. Shook its head off. That or one of our infamous Vancouver Island Satanic cults! Oh wait, they like cats. I'm sticking with dog on this one.

Chupacabra, definately.

It reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I had my kids with me on a stalk to get into the middle of a mess of javelina. We were near a river in the desert north east of phx by fountain hills and we stopped to make some hot cocoa with trioxane and the GI cup and stove. while the kids were playing they found exactly what was in your picture minus the body, just the entrails. However there were no tracks and it seemed odd. I had the same questions you did.

FYI- stalks are tuff as is let alone when you have 6 children in tow, no matter how disciplined they are. Needles to say the group I visit regularly was not visible this day. We could hear them and saw fresh sign but no visuals. the trip before one walked within 4 feet of my wife.

pardon the tangent i got off on.

chupacabra!!!!

I have just been looking through some of my books and it says a hawk will decapitate a pidgeon and maybe just eat the breast, so I'm now thinking this may have been the work of an eagle ! There are plenty in the area !!!

You may be right about the eagle. believe it or not there are a couple of breeding pairs that i have seen along this stretch of river here in the desert. thought i was crazy when i saw the first until a fish cop confirmed it.

I'm thinking if it was a predator why didn't they bother with the guts? I thought that was the stuff that goes first? An eagle is what I would assume if there are plenty in the area. I heard that hawks and such will pick up an animal, fly up in the air then drop it to kill it then fly down and get it.

Pitdog, you are right. I used to work a little bit in a Am. Kestrel aviary where we fed them dead chicks. For some reason, the kestrels would always eat the heads first. Popping back one head after another and discarding the rest of the body. They'd only go back to the bodies when all the heads were gone and they were still hungry!

That wabbit clearly sinned against the state and received the guillotine as a result.

"I can fly! ....................... uhm ..................... no I can't!!!"

Looks like a bird's work and it looks like it was dropped there, unless there is blood in that picture that I can't see

It's possible that it needed something in the head, and nothing else due to some kind of illness or deficiency. There are deer in Scotland that eat the heads off of baby birds that have fallen from the nest due to a vitamin and calcium deficiency. It's very bizarre to watch. They've even been known to knock them out of nests in some cases.
