I was in the garage this morning working on another kitchen knife for my wife. This is to be a clone of her favorite slicer. Anyway, I have a brand new 36 grit belt on and I'm happily hogging away, dipping after every pass, as I am wont to do. I notice during the passes that some heat is being transferred to my left forefinger, which I use to keep the blade flat against the platen. It doesn't seem all that bad, so I basically ignore it. Because I use a lighter touch on the opposite side, I don't seem to feel any such pain on those passes.
Long story short, when I'm done with the grinding I notice that my left forefinger is red and sensitive. Kinda like a bad sunburn. I guess I'll pay more attention to the heat from now on.
