Who knows their stuff about Binoculars?

OK I just came back from the store. Oh Man! I'm gonna be out at least a grand after seeing the difference.

I paired off the Swarovskis, Zeiss and Leica's against each other.

The Swarovski wins hands down at that time of the day (16:00) and still bright outside. The Leicas seemed a tad better IMO than the Zeiss, but there wasn't an awful lot between them and it could have been a cloud or something but I still put the Zeiss last, which surprised me.

I am going to try for the Swarovski if I can get it for a grand on offer someplace. Failing that either of the other two would be a very close second.

Thanks again all for the help and suggestions.

Temper,
Cambridge is "known" for selling "gray" merchandise and sometimes accepting payment for things not in stock.
You may wanna check here:

The price is about the same and they have a better reputation.

The 10x50 WB SLC is an awesome hunk of glass and I love the diopter settings on them. The swarovskis are my pic out of the big three too and for the price you would have to pay for the Pentax I would definitely get the SLC instead. However, be warned, that is a big binocular. For hiking and such it can be pretty heavy. If you are gonna use them on a tripod or do star-gazing along with some hiking then they are well suited. If you are going to mainly hike then you may wanna look at the 7x42. They are the best "bang-for-the-buck" swarovksi and gather light like crazy. Either way, you cannot go wrong with the swarovskis!

Thanks Jason, I though it looked a bit 'dodgy' as the saying goes 'If it sounds too good to be ture, it probaby is' :p

I looked at the HotBuys place and was a bit suspicious there too but the Otter posted a link for it and assumed it would be OK.

I just can't beleive the view I got out of all of them, but especially the Swarovski. I put them up againt a pair of Nikons that ran about $400 and just handed them back in 2 seconds without a comment lol.

Cheers for the help
