Who likes Fiddle Back KOA wood?

I love me some koa.

Koa grips adorn my favorite 1911.

I had Ray Laconico handle a knife for me with koa.

Kevin,
When I was finishing this piece it looked like a piece of PLYWOOD -:eek:
I told my self I better put a real good finish on this one to make it look good?
Well I finished it and it kinda shocked me, like it came a live.:D:p
.

The first time I bought koa I was scared spitless.
I paid over $100 a board foot, wholesale from the mill. When the box of 5 pieces I had paid $1000 for arrived I was scared even more because it was so small. When I opened it up and looked at the wood I almost cried. I could see there was curly figure but it still looked kind of bland. I hid the box of wood because I didn't want my boss to see what I had spent $1000 of his money on. Next day I came in early and cut some up into blocks. As I was sanding the wood began to transform before my eyes. When I got to 400 grit, I said to myself, "Dang!!! You could make bicycle reflectors out of this stuff.
Now I am hooked. I still can't take decent photos of the stuff. But at the shows the koa blocks always draw a crowd.

Koa porn - yes!!! Love it.

I like Koa as well as anybody however on a little bitty knife it cant be fully appreciated. I bet that slippie is light as a feather with it though.
I want that piece Roger P has real bad.

I know this is an old thread but it gives me a chance to show off these; Not a knife but Grips for a 1911 pistol.

The chatoyancy on this tightly curled Koa gives it a 3-D effect like you are looking into it.

They are EYE POPPIN good lookin'......👀........👍👍👍
