Who made the first kukri machete?

Hmmm...I'll be honest--I'm not sure how much influence there's been between Thailand and India/Nepal. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. :o

Cold Steel Light Terrain Chopper (LTC) was around in the early 90's (maybe late 80's) at least and was the first khukuri "machete" I remember. It is 1/8" thick and works very well at most things.

Duh!:D Bill Kukri.

JK

The question might be asked on two levels: 1. who applied the kukri design to something that can be used as a machete and 2. who actually labelled his design as a kukri machete. Question 1 can likely be traced back to antiquity.

So, I guess it is number 2: who was the first one to call his design a kukri machete?

anyone think the e-nep played in the development of production 'kukri' machetes?

Historically, no, since The Thai Kingdoms warred constantly with the Indo-Burmese. There was little or no trade.

Present-day, who knows?

Thanks for the historical insight! I have to admit that's a region I've not read much about in the history books. :o
