Who makes a popular priced folding CARBON steel knife?

I have a couple such beasts. But they may not be what you're after. Most carbon steel bladed folders are the slipjoint and lockback types in "traditional designs." The ones I'm referring to are the Schrade slipjoints eg.- the "Old Timers" as one example and the very very economical Opinel French made folders which use a twisting collar type locking mechanism which is very "politically correct." I think Cold Steel also now make some traditional pattern knives with Carbon V.

These types have served me well over the years but I'm not sure what sorts you want. I can't think of any liner lockers etc, unless you call on a custom maker. There are a few makers who are using 52100 and O-1 which make awesome using folders if stain resistance is not an issue.

Cheers. Jason.

Just had a look and he has some really overbuilt, rugged locking folders now. +/- coatings apparently. If his folders are anything like the fixed blades, they're possibly the toughest folders around - rock solid, affordable and dependable.

Cold Steel Trail Guide. A one-hand oval-hole opener lockback in Carbon V high carbon steel for $18-32 and choice of clip or drop point in large or medium size.

That about what you meant?

Yow-ZAH! Dat's de one. Sendin for one now. CARBON blade.
Stains, rust, aging..........but........SHARP and edge holding.

Long live carbon steel.

Thanks guys. This looks like EXACTLY what I wanted.

But it's too CHEAP. I will be FROWNED upon.

:D

If it's The One, but you feel it's too inexpensive, send an extra check to the company here and there to make up for it. Don't buy multiple copies of it or the knife will get jealous.

Did you order through Botach Tactical or Wholesale Hunter? Their price is already lower than the very reasonable price from www.ltspecpro.com

"popular" price it is going to be hard to beat the Opinels - the very popular Opinel #8 with carbon steel blade and locking ring Model # 13080 can be as low as <$7.

I know it isn't one-handed - but at this price you can afford to have one of these as well as a "backup" or a general purpose - for almost anything knife.

Don't tell anyone I told you, but just between you and me, we've all been snickering at you behind your back anyway. Might as well get the Trailguide, can't make things any worse.

What's the best way to completely degrease the new CARBON blade so I can get a PERFECT thumbprint to rust in as quickly as possible so I don't end up oiling and protecting it?

:)

I believe those ring-lock Opinel knives are made in France...you know the lovelies who've been training the Iraqies.

While I've never actually done it, I'd say: shoot it with gun scrubber and slather it with lemon juice! Half :) , I actually wonder if it would work! Gun scrubber does a great job of getting rid of grease, solvents, and everything else, and lemon juice gives a nice patina.

I have used the lemon juice trick on a Opinel and you don't really need to do much for prep. Just give it a quick wash and dry and put in the lemon Juice. It doesn't take very long at all think I had it darker than I wanted in about 2 hours. Make sure and give it a good wash and then oil after its finished.
