Recommendation? Who Makes Full D2 Folder?

All D2 7"x1/4" blade.

That’s D2?! It looks a lot like titanium to me.

I’m talking about a full steel handled folder not just cosmetic scales

D2 seems tougher than aluminum and less cost than titanium?

Also many folks make stainless handle folders. What grades are used?

How heavy would an all d2 steel folding knife weigh?
Depends on the size of the knife...

I would think that one could not tell one carbon based blade alloy (being steel) from another based upon weight and in hand feel.

If someone tried to tell you otherwise, I would bet them to be a snake oil salesman.

I’ve seen 416 stainless used. The only D2 accessory on a knife I know of is the butt cap on Ontario’s fixed blade chimera fighting knife. The blade, however, is 1095.

D2 is not that stainless. I would suspect makers would use a more stainless material within reason for steel scales.

Lots of budget knives are made of steel.
Check out

Boker Plus Lateralus. It's a d2 blade and steel handles.

You usually only see steel frame locks on low-end production knives. They use low-end stainless steel. Any time a company wants to produce an "upgraded" frame lock material they go to titanium.

I've never seen a company advertise "upgraded" frames that were a different kind of steel.

Once again, I can't be entirely certain but this is my experience.

it's still generally called scale. Yes it would be tougher but I think it'll be more expensive than titanium because it really wears down tools etc way faster. Also it's susceptible to rust. Not "blade-grade" steel.

As for weight: Density D2 - 7.7e3 kg/m³ and Density 6Al4V - 4.43e3 kg/m³.
If you say the volume of a blade is about 80%(approx. right I'd guess?) in the handles it comes out at ~140% the weight of a titanium handled knife. So a fairly light 70g Titanium knife comes out at about 100g (The puny 314g Medford marauder clocks in right around 440g ;) )

EDIT: Quickly checked one of my designs and the scales are a bit over 85% of total volume (neglecting hardware, clip etc.)
