who makes new winchesters?

Cheap Winchesters are made in China and suck. The expensive (good ones) are made by Queen and/or Camillus depending on the model.

If it's cheap, it's probably junk.
AFAIK Blugrass still has the rights to use the Winchester name and still uses Queen as the Mfg.
Gerber was also granted rights and are bringing in cheap crap.
But there is also another unknown manufacturer bringing them in, because the were here before Gerber had rights to use the name. Right up there with Taylor if it's not actually Taylor behind them.
Anything Gerber does, has "Winchester by Gerber" somewhere on the packaging and/or name, they're not shy in admitting they're behind it.
The good Winchesters still command a premium new.
