And I'll just say it, and I don't care if I get flamed or not, but SOG seems to be the masters of "recreation" It didn't take them long to "recreate" assisted opening, axis lock, or the rainbow effect.........
I used to like SOG, but now I have an ethical problem with their products.

No flame from me. I've been thinking the exact same thing. A bunch o' copycats! I'm glad someone else is thinking the same thing and that you SAID it! :)

Centurian,
Check out the new Bump. It is closer to custom than any mass produced factory knife I've seen.

I've got to disagree with the majority here. The title for the post is "best assisted opening knives". I am assuming that we are talking the whole knife, not just the opening device.

While Kershaw makes some pretty good opening knives, most have "ok" steel and plastic zytel type handles. There are a few exceptions the Boa being the most popular.

Taking into account the "whole knife" without a question it goes to the Camillus knives. First Dominator, has a 3.6inch S30v steel blade with a titanium handle. The Aftermath has a 5.5inch D2 steel blade with titanium handles. As opposed to the following...

Bush Rush: 420HC blade, aluminum handles. ...

Presuming you mean the Buck Rush, keep in mind the knife comes in two different models. Model 290 is the 420HC blade, Model 291 is ATS-34 steel. Both come with the anodized aluminum handles. And while I can't speak about the others, I am quite happy with my 291.

Are SOG A.O. knives that good?? I have only seen the Flash and Flash II models and I was not impressed with them so I pretty much wrote them off.

I voted for Kershaw as they are the smoothest operating A.O. knives I have handled.

I've got several Kershaws and several Sogs, I like 'em both, I like the action on the Kershaw more, but I also like the look and feel of the Flash better.

If I had to buy one it would most likely be a Kershaw.

Hawaiian - very nice! The Random Task is a rock-solid knife, excellent fit and finish, and razor sharp. I only lament the fact that mine has a combo edge.

Kershaw / Onion's rule the roost.

- Rob M.

For me the Kershaw Onions have been the best assisted opening production folders so far, but the new Buck Rush models 290/291 are just as good. I have one of each in ATS-34 and 420HC and they are great little folders.
