Who Makes the Best Handles for Folders?

Well, I think knife ergonomics are one thing that Gerber still has going for them. I know a lot of people who carry one or another and for the most part, they are all comfortable. Not saying they great overall knives but for all of the different models and styles, they all sport a high level of comfort.

Just as Guns Do not have magazines, they have clips.
Most guns us a magazine, not a clip. The M1 Garand is one of the very few popular guns that uses a clip.

That said, I'll agree with others that Spyderco makes some of the most comfortable grips. My Manix 2 feels absolutely perfect in my hand, and the opening and closing action (which is all part of the ergonomics to me) is the best of any knife I've ever used.

I think there's a fine line between a comfortable handle and one that looks comfortable but isn't. IMO, the BM Griptillian and Presidio/Bone Collector are some of the most comfy FOLDERS I have ever used. You can really push them hard and it will not (the aluminum Presidios have those hard scallops but the Ultra series are really nice) dig into your hand or cause discomfort. An example of a knife that to me, looked and initially felt comfy was the CS new-gen Recon1. All those finger grooves, what's not to like? Until I was doing some experimental wood carving to make a wedge for a project, wow that handle really wasn't made to lean on. For me, if the handle scales are flatter, I want something more neutral in shape. I have a new gen CS Voyager with its more rounded handle profile, it is a comfy knife in use as well.

The ZT 454 is the most comfortable for me. The rounded handle is awesome!

As far as flat handles go, the Curtiss F3 is probably my favorite. I know it doesn't work for a lot of people but it feels very natural for me.

With production knives, it really depends on the model.

Spyderco Manix 2 and Gayle Bradley really float my boat for that brand.

Kizer Ki423 is perfect for my hands

ZT 0770CF and 0561 are good

Best I've ever handled or owned? Strider SnG. It may look weird or ugly, but wow does it fit my hand. Someday, I'll sell some of the knives I have and put them towards a non-S30V SnG.

For a production knife the ZT 045x series is pretty decent, especially the 454.

Custom? My Thorburn L51 takes the cake. It's a very well thought out design. Andre has staggered the finger grooves to maximize the exposed surface of the liner for easy release and to also make up for the natural curvature of your index finger when gripping the knife. Andre is a very thoughtful knifemaker.

Add the contoured scales, and you have some of the most perfect ergonomics around.
