Who makes the best lambsfoot knife in sheffield?

It's made a long way from Sheffield, but here's the 'silent' Lambsfoot I got a couple of months back:

Thanks for the pics, I would like that link if you don't mind. I hope to get one as nice as the one in your photos.

Just remembered I have these pics of an Arthur Wright Lambsfoot I bought a few weeks ago for someone. I had to go back to the stockist three times to get this one. Even then, the blade is slightly off-centre when closed, and there'll certainly be gaps, there always are. Personally I can live with these flaws, these are a working knives afterall, even if you also have to be ready to sharpen them before they'll work!

Old George Wostenholm was notoriously mean and penny-pinching with 'his' workers, famously wanting 14 knives to the dozen, but he certainly ensured the knives he paid for were of the highest quality. The days of that sort of quality are sadly long gone in terms of an affordable Sheffield pocket knife, I'm afraid to say. I wish that wasn't the case, but I still reccomend the Lambsfoot pattern if you can get hold of one you can work with.

Another beauty. Gaps and off center blades don't bother me to much, I buy with the intent to use not collect.
I used to have an old wostenholm, it was very old and not much blade left, a lot of blade wobble as well but still a good looking knife, I traded it to a member here a couple years ago.

Here's a pilot study or rough first approximation.

The blade should come down a bit more at an angle, and the more it does the more blade length will be saved. The nose needs a gentler curve, which I can still do. The back isn't quite straight, which I can still change. The blade is thick behind where the hook came off, and needs thinning before I can really sharpen it.
But I think with care one could get pretty close to a traditional lambsfoot by this route. Not that mine will ever be as pretty as Jack's.

By chance (good luck), my girlfriend bought me one of Trevor Ablett's knives yesterday. It's not a Lambsfoot I'm afraid, but beariing in mind that he's discussed above, I thought I'd chip in with my impressions of it. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised by the fit and finish of the knife, there is no light coming through the back, blades are centred, reasonably ground, and even quite sharp. I think Mr Ablett uses a little too much brass on his knives, so his Lambsfoot knives are a bit fancy for my tastes, but if the knife I got yesterday is not completely atypical of the work he's producing now, he might well be worth considering.

Here are photos I found

From left: T. Ablett's (Yes too much Brass...), A. Wright, Lockwood Bros. ERA James Barber. The other 2 are US made and lambfoot

Jack your Wright looks higher quality than the one I had, I really like it.

Very nice mike. That ablett is a real looker, reminds me of a buck 112 with all that brass.

Evening folks. I was noodling around the web tonight and came across this A. Wright and Son Buffalo Lambsfoot folder:

Looks good, nice pattern, and great price. Research brought me to this thread. (Not much else out there really.) Instead of starting anew, I thought I'd resurrect the dead and ask if things have changed regarding quality of the Sheffield cutlers in the intervening years since the last post.

(Mod, apologies in advance for the necromancy.)

Bugdoc, you may want to check out the much more recent (and active) Guardians of the Lambsfoot thread. Lots of great Lambsfoot info there (including plenty of posts about the A. Wright Lambsfoot).

Tom : : Just in case you do not go to the Guardian of the Lambsfoot thread I will put these pictures of the Lambsfoot that I got last week from Taylors Eye Witness . The covers are Ramshorn

Thanks Harry. That's a great shot of the translucent horn. As with many aspects of this hobby for me, I need to educate myself on these Sheffield names. I'm headed over there now.
