I would really like to know which MULTI-TOOL is the best. i found at work its really handy to have one on me, But i feel that my current made in China multi tool really isnt going to last (It was a gift).

So now its time to up grade, and it would be great to have something that can do it all.

I've looked into te leatherman line and they look great, but is there anything better.

I went through this exercise about a year ago. I tried real hard to like things other than the Leatherman. Unfortunately the Leatherman is the best. The new Surge has a few tools over the wave. I have not purchased one yet, so for now the wave goes with me everywhere everyday. The second choice behind the Leatherman is the swistool. But it is really heavy and the blades are thinner than on the Leatherman. All just my opinion....

I have had all of the ones out there and the only one worth it to me to carry everyday is the SwissTool. It kicks all the others in the behind in my opinion. The pliers are extremely capable and heavy duty. One thing I really like about it is the fact that when I want the blade out I get just the blade and not everything else besides what I want tagging along behind it like my Leatherman used to do. The locks on the blades and other tools on the ST are very reliable and strong also.

The Leathermans are my close second choice though and they do have one feature I did like over the SwissTool. I got pretty used to being able to just flip open the pliers out and open with one hand with my Leatherman almost like a Butterfly knife type action. This action with the SwissTool is a two hand job. I did miss that feature when I made the switch but other than that I've never looked back.

Victorinox Swisstool (either an RS or X as they have scissors )or a Spirit if you want something a bit smaller and lighter , i have Leathermans and Vics but its the leatherman that gets left at home ;)

The Leatherman Wave is my favorite. There's also alot of support for the Victorinox SwissTool and Spirit, though I've never owned either of them.

If you want one that's made like a tank go for SOG's tools :D ,one leatherman I miss is the sideclip :( I have one and it always goes to town and woods with me (yea I carry two)

leatherman - charge, wave, surge, or supertool - your choice. I edc the charge because its lighter with titanium handles and its blade is 154cm.

As with most questions about "the best" the answer depends heavily on what you intend to do with the tool. My favorites for all-around functionality are the Victorinox Spirit and SwissTool X. I carry a Spirit as part of my EDC. These tools get everything right with versatile tools, great ergonomics, reliability, and toughness.

If your primary concern is the pliers, go with my second choice (and previous EDC) the SOG PowerLock. The compound leverage design gives it the most effective pliers you can get in a folding tool. There's nothing wrong with the rest of the design either, I just find the other tools adequate instead of great.

If you don't want to carry a separate blade, the Leatherman Surge or Wave make good sense. Either will give you a one-handed opening knife along with a decent multi-tool.

Anyone have a Leatherman Charge Ti? If som what do you think of it. I personally have a Gerber multi-tool, that I keep in my truck. It was one of those where you could build your own. I have a green handled one, and all black tools!! I love the thing. But, I have been eyeing the Charge Ti.

I have a Charge Ti, and like it, although it's a bit heavy for me to carry in my pocket every day, so I usually either keep it in my backpack (when I have one along) or leave it at home unless I think I might need it (I'm sure this doesn't hold true for everybody, but it's just my experience).

Do you find that you use the clip that it has or do you use a sheath with your Ti Charge? The pocket clip is one of the things that attracted me to it in the first place!

Vic Swisstool is the best. It's the one that will outlast all the others.

Second best is the one I carry everyday, a Gerber multiplier. Really good too, but I would still pick the swisstool if I had a reason to buy another multitool.

Leatherman, IMHO, their steel is way too soft for a multitool.
And there are other reasons why I dislike Leatherman as a company on ethical grounds, but that's a story for another forum.

The Spirit from Victorinox has, by far, the most comfortable pliers. I used to think things like the wave or the larger swiss tool were okay, but after using these, I have changed my mind. It is comfortable to put a lot of pressure on these. No sharp edges that dig into the hand, the tools are all on the outside whilst it is closed, and it comes with a ratchet set and many bits.

I use the clip for urban environments and the sheath for camping.
