I'm in the market for a multitool and dont know anything about them ,which is the cream of the crop price aside?

Both suggestions are excellent.

However. I "understand" that the ESEE folks may be about to break into the multi-tool market. Given the outstanding quality and excellent price of their knives, I certainly plan on checking their product out!:)

They have their own sub-forum elsewhere on BF. "Look and you shall find."

In mid sized multi's it would be a tie between the Vic. Spirit and the Leatherman Charge/Wave family . It depends on what features are important to you . All others are "also rans" .

In large frame multi's it would be the Vic. Swisstool vs. the Leatherman Supertool 300 and Surge .

Chris really hit the nail on the head. The Spirit/Wave are the best. If your no going to carry a knife then the Wave/Charge is a must but if you carry a folder a Spirit would work well.

Also a fan of the Vics. Aside from the 154cm blade on the Leatherman all of the smaller implements of the Vic are superior.
Don't waste your time on a SOG. They look good on paper but everything about them with the exception of the plyers is junk.

My sweet wife picked me up one of these at SMKW.It's an awesome tool !

Although I love Vic SAKs, I can't agree that the Swisstool implements are, on the whole, superior. Although ST tools are okay, the Leathermen saw and can openers are about equal, their true needlenose pliers are more versatile, screwdrivers fit and function much better, and on those models that have them, the diamond file is best of any. Of course, we are blessed with a variety of good choices, but these are some of the reasons I prefer Leatherman tools over the competition.

That is something I wonder about. I have no experience at all with SOG, never even handled one, but my DIY tool-wise brother is a huge fan and owns a few. So loyal to SOG is he that my gift to him of a Swisstool Spirit did not sway his opinion in the least. Preceding paragraph notwithstanding, I still have great respect for Swisstool products and thought for sure that my brother would be won over by the f&f, at least, but that did not happen. What do you find lacking in SOG implements?

The implements open from the inside which is pretty inconvenient in this day and age and they clump together when you open them. Also the covers fit really poorly over the implements and are just kind of a pain to use in general. Seems like a very antiquated system to me. The scissors are really bad and the reamer is made to use counter clockwise which i guess is fine if you're a lefty but most of us aren't.

I do like the files on the Leathermans better and I like the Remgrit saws on Gerbers and do wish the Vics had needlenose plyers. I still like the Vic screwdrivers better because they're longer and I find them easier to use. I realise the bits for the LMs are very good but I don't like to carry around extra parts for my multitools. I did sand blast the tips of my Vics screwdrivers though to give them more grip.

Any more details or links? I didn't see anything on their forum and google wasn't helpful.
