Who makes the best saw?

I've heard good and bad on the pocket chain saws. Is it just that one brand or other is junk, or is there only one maker, or is it user error? I know all those factors come into play with the wire saws.

Are they talking about this specific type? If you mean the wire ones that are one piece of serrated wire, then I agree that they are garbage. The teeth/serrations are just not big enough to cut anything effectively. This thing is like the chain off of a chainsaw, with individual links linked together. I don't know about any other brands that make one like the one I linked to. I've used a lot of saws over the years, and I have never had one that came even close to cutting as fast as this one did, especially with the minimal effort this one takes. If you don't like it, it's only $20. :)

I go for compact, inexpensive but quality saws.

Try the FISKARS telescopic, cheap but very practical and useful, works like the devil too! Or one of the traditional Opinel saws, small and very handy.

Why waste a lot of cash ? These two are workers:thumbup:

I have a fixed blade pruning saw with a sheath that I picked up at Wal-Mart that does a surprisingly neat job. Sorry I can't find a brand name on it.

The report I read said it broke right away and again after repairs. My first thought was junky copies and user error next. Some folk just aren't too bright with tools. They need to license screwdrivers more than firearms :)

I have a cross cut style pocket chain saw. Can't remember the brand name, but it is basically a chainsaw blade that cuts in both directions. I also use a Vaughan Bear Saw a lot. Basically an interchangeable handle/blade saw. The blade I have is a very fine pull saw which blasts through just about anything. Very similar to Japanese pull saws. The pocket chainsaw is awesome for cutting firewood, especially if it's super dense and you get 2 people cranking the thing.

I use this one for two years now. Made by Bahco, model 396JT. Very similar to Laplander model but diferent(larger) teeth and the blade coating is different(still black but smooth). I would not trade for any other saw that size. I also have

..to use around the house ... Cuts and holds GREAT!

I just picked up a Fiskars sliding saw for $9.99 at a Dicks sporting goods. Its a good price for that saw. If you have a Dick's near by, you may want to check it out.
