Who makes this Parang/Machette?

I haven't seen that one before. Looks stainless.

He has designed his own machete for TOPS and it looks like the most gimmicky machete I've ever seen. For me one of the beauties of the machete is it's simplicity and ease of resharpening, although I really like Picts mods with a scandi edge near the base for fine work.

That'll be Cpt. Myke Hawke. And that "machete" is an el-cheapo he picked up at an Asian (I believe. It might have been South American since the SoS episode was about the Amazon) flea market thing just before he made the episode of "Science of Survival" he used it in. It's funny that SoS refers to it as a modified "parang", because it's really more of a modified khukri if anything.
That same one reappears in the video "Dirty Sanchez", IIRC...or was it "Jackass Number II"?
Either way...

There's nothing special about it. Even Cpt. Hawke says that much if you ask him about it.

I read elsewhere Hawke later stated he would not use that particular machete again. It was too heavy.

As mentioned before it is a cheapo. Cheaperthandirt had it for awhile ($9.99) but is no longer offered.

On Amazon they have something similar by "Grey Eagle" called the Heavy Duty Wood Handle Machete and costs $16.10.

Could it be THIS from Grey Eagle Trader? Available at Machete Specialists and Amazon... FWIW...

16" blade / 21" OAL / 440 SS / 0.16" thick / made in china

What's so cheap about a $150 machete ? Maybe he did not want to say what it really was, since he was not getting endorsement money from Hiro ?;)

Take Off of a KhuKuri.. go for a !2 -18 Inch Ontario and Mod per Pict post and your way ahead of the game.
KhuK man am I!

Hype ...get a Real Prang or Bolo or Barang if your in that climate, works well on Green wood you would need something stiffer for the U.S.A northeast

as I lived and worked in some of those places I carried a 5-7 inch belt knife All the time.. besides a pocket knife...now a Multi Tool

Why would you say that?

Plenty stiff for me. It's all about technique and a forward-weighted design--less so about blade rigidity, though that can help sometimes. ;)
