Who makes what for whom?

>"Spyderco makes its own knives in the US, and has some knives made in Japan ..."

=================================

More like:
Spyderco makes some knives in the U.S. and has most of it's product line made in Japan.

Hey, I'm a Spydie fan and love my Japan-made Endura. But I think for the sake of accuracy it's important to point out that most of their line is made in Asia.

The one I get a kick out of is Fallkniven. Swedish high tech knives...totally made in Japan and their "high tech" innovations (e.g. blade steels) are also Japanese. A couple of knives are based on swedish patterns (don't tell the finns), but most are just refinements of standard desgins. But hey...the owner's swedish.

The company's up for sale, what happens is he doesn't sell to a swede? :)

Thats not totally accurate. When I get an invoice from my distributor it always says the country of origin on it. Some of the FK knives are listed as made in Japan, others (The Northern Light series IIRC) are listed as Sweden

Now, whether all the parts are made in Japan and shipped to Sweden or only the blades for the NL series I don't know. Either way its confusing :)

Regarding FK being for sale. I have read that if he does not find a buyer he will not discount stock, it will be sold at regular prices until its all gone. Best pick up a U2 guys just in case.

Bradley Cutlery knives aren't made by Benchmade.

I bet that is news to both Bradley and Benchmade. Dude, where did you get your info?

To keep this thread going:

BladeTech (Tim Wegner's company)- makes folding knives for Swamp Rat & Tarani, and makes sheaths for fixed blades by Spyderco & Cold Steel.

Best wishes,

Kershaw is actually owned by KAI. Not sure if it always was that way or not.

KAI did not always own Kershaw. It was started by Pete Kershaw. However, it was only a few years before it became a subsidiary of KAI.

Not sure if I missed this in an earlier post, but CRKT do not make their own knives.

Their new assisted openers are made for them by another company in the US.
Esav, we manufacture every AO knife that goes out the door right here in Tualatin Oregon. No other company is producing our assisted opening knives for us.

This was kind of an old thread, but one worth dredging up.

The great majority (if not all) of the Spyderco knives made in Japan are made by Moki or G. Sakai. Browse either companies website and look at the construction they use.

Moki has made quite a few knives for Beretta in the past.

The "G" in G. Sakai stands for Gerber IIRC. They did the Silver Knight line for Gerber. Prior to that they were just known as Sakai.

A lot of the Japanese knife manufacturing depends on a cottage industry type system though, or so I've been told, so there may very well be some products from different companies that have parts made or finished by the same people.

If Bradley isn't made by Benchmade, I'll set the person that can prove it up on a date with Kysa (if she isn't too busy). :D
