It was a cold night, the lighting was bad, and yet here he is dressing out a deer... who could this be, I wonder?

...and what knife did he use, I wonder?

Looks vaguely familiar....:p

That whole weekend was a riot and it was over all too fast. You guys really know what you're doing.

It was very informative getting the opportunity to try out a couple different hunting knives in their intended application - and I was very pleased with how my own blade performed.

There is a very nearly unspeakable satisfaction that
comes from making a tool, using it for it's intended
purpose, and seeing it perform as it was meant to.

Congrats..!

COOL. I've never dressed game, but that looks like a surgically clean operation going on there! Must be satisfying to use your own handmade knife and have it work well.

Very Nice Roger... now there MUST be more pics of the Deer, Knife and of course that nice shiney Rolex (?) on your wrist... don't hold out on us. :D:thumbup:

Taking a fold out extension ladder to use as a gantry to hang the deer is pretty clever.
Is that what i'm seeing?

Naah, just what we used to get to the big tree branch with the rope and block.

Good times!

Explorer II on your wrist ?
I don't recognize the knife.

Hey guys,

I may have a pic of the deer at home - I'll check this evening.

The watch is waaaaaay south of Rolex territory. Watches are another passion of mine and I do have some nice pieces, but I wear my beater in the bush - an inexpensive Invicta Diver:

Not an example of haute horology, but I will say this for it - I have abused the heck out of it and I can barely seem to scratch the thing.

The knife is my own and the first I ever made. I had used it quite a bit as a general utility knife, but this is the first time the hunting knife did its hunting thing:

Cleaned up real easy, too. ;)

Russ and Peter - yes, I found it extremely gratifying to use my own own piece in its intended role.

Roger

THAT IS YOUR FIRST KNIFE?!!! That's it, I can't take it anymore. I'm taking up knitting.
Bob

^^^ Thanks, but I was hardly muddling along all on my own. When you have somebody like Dan Farr standing over your shoulder every step of the way, stopping you from making the big mistakes and helping you fix the small ones, the results are going to be much better than they would be otherwise.

Roger

That a great picture. Congrats on the hunt and being able to make a knife for the job too. It always feels good to use your own knife.

that's too cool! your knife rocks ! the watch? well, well, my dear... japanese movement...:D

best regards,
hans

How cool seeing a knife performing one of its intended uses.
And how satisfied you must be, Roger, using one of your own to do it with.

As far as watches, with Charlie Mike around, we're sick of Rolexs anyway. :D

Doug

Congratulations, Roger! And the deer is nice, too! lol Seriously though, congratulations all the way around. Good eating, fine knife that you made yourself, what more could a man ask for?
