Who removes the clips off their folders?

Removing the clip from a folder is one of the very first things I do when I get a new one.

Sure, pocket carry collects more lint, takes a second or two longer to access and you will never know quite how it will be oriented... but I've yet to find a clip which well and truly made the knife it was attached to feel better.

Imaginary self defense scenarios be damned!! :p

I generally leave the clips on. If visibility of the clip is an issue, I pocket a knife without a clip.

I did remove the clip from a BM Walter Brend, but did it so long ago I don't know why. I removed a clip from a Gerber AF Covert as it caught on stuff all the time. To make matters worse, it would often scratch things when I leaned against them. Lastly, I remove the clip from a Spyderco Centofante (old style with the Wharnecliff blade in ATS-34) as I thought it would make a great "pocket" knife. I learned that that knife fit my hand much better with the clip on.

Very interesting to see so many that do remove the clips. I thought I was alone in that regard. Especially when you read about tip up or down being deal breakers for some people when considering a particular knife. I think on bigger folders I can get away with a clip because the handle is bigger and does not interfere with my grip as much.

Depends on the knife. On some knives, the clip digs into my leg when the knife is carried deep in the pocket. On these, I remove the clip as that is how I carry most of my smaller knives. Also, on some knives the clip seems to improve grip while on other knives, the clip hinders a good grip.
