Who uses a baitcaster?

Okay here is what I use and for what I use it for.

Chronarch SF on a 7' MH Fenwick with a not so fast taper for Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits
Chronarch MG on a Kistler LTA 7' MH fast taper for jigs/worms 3/8oz or heavier
Bantam Chronarch on a Shimano V-Rod 7' M Fast for rattle traps and lighter spinnerbaits/buzzbaits
Bantam Chronarch on a ST Croix proglass 7'6" M for Crankbaits
Bantam Curado on a Kistler LTA 6'9" M Fast for Senko/soft plastic Jerks
Bantam Curado on a Kistler LTA 7' M Fast for topwater/hard jerks
Curado CU on a Kistler Magnesium 7' MH for swimbaits

I have some others from other manufacturers but they don't make it out much. I am partial to Shimano's Baitcasters
 
I use Diawa and Abu Garcia baitcasters for bass, stripe, and jacks (sauger). Most of of my rods are from Bass Pro Shops.
 
I'm about to buy a G Loomis GLX for my Curado, or, just save the coin and try out the new TFO.
 
I have 2x shimano curados one is on a 6 and half medium heavy v rod (my spinnerbait combo and in my hands 80% of the time) other is on a 7 foot medium heavy lommis (deep water fishing slow rolling spinnerbaits carolina rigs things of this nature)

i could keep these 2x along with my 2x stradic combos and fish everywhere and be very happy
 
I have a few baitcasters, I used to run all shimano baitcasters and would have never thought Id fish anything else. But over the last yr Ive switched over to garcia revos, I love em!

I have them matched up with a Dobyns Savvy and a st croix mojo bass rod.

I use them strictly for bass fishing.

I would personally not buy a new loomis rod. Quality of their blanks are not worth the price IMO.

I would look at getting a Dobyns rod or a powell. Falcon BuCoo rods are great for $100 also

Just my 0.02, lots of better options for the money.

noticed Loomis quality has gone down over the past few years. ill second your statement.
 
I have been using a Shimano Curado 200 DHSV and Abu Garcia 5500 WS for years. I still have a spinning setup for backup, but i only us it once a year.
 
I've been throwing an Abu baitcaster (in various forms) since 1982.
Last Saturday I figured that since I'm such a well practiced old hand at this stuff...
I removed the brake blocks on my 5600C3 (filled with 30# suffix braid).
Put it on a shimano 7' med/hvy rod and brought it down to the East River to test some striper plugs I loaded.

First cast with a 1 1/2oz Kastmaster got me some kind of backlash.
Next two casts were lobs, then another birds nest.
Finally when I thought I had the hang of it, I leaned into a cast and just about burnt my thumb on the spool... which led to yet another knotted mess.

It was 1982 all over again

Needless to say, I put the brake blocks back in as soon as I got home.
 
Lol, i use brakes of a sort on all my setups, most of them are almost freespool, but when the amount of lure sizes i throw, it's easier to just keep the minimum on and be able to change lures faster than fiddle with weights on and off all day. My quantum and abu garcia have a weight knob, but my shimano uses the click weights where you have to take the side bayonet off, just a pain!
 
i keep my brakes off. learn to use your thumb. your thumb is the best brake in the business :D
 
of my 2 main baitcasters, one has a magnetic brake and one doesn't. The one without throws a lot smoother, better, and farther. the other one just can't lol, even if I turn the magnetic brake off.

know what you mean. the magnetic does help with reducing back lash though. my shimanos have them and you dont need brakes really. the magnetic mess does it for you
 
I just went and bought my first Tuna set up. I bought a Seeker Stealth 25~40, 8'ft with a Shimano Torium #16 reel. I love this set up and I will try it out on monday cuase the Yellow tail are hitting in So Cal. I usually use a Pfluger, Shimano or Abu Garcia bait caster or the same in a spinning reel. I like bait casters for jigging plastics, or trying to get action on my baits. If I am using a crank bait I like using a spinning rod. I actually went out and found an old 12' bamboo cane pole, I can't wait to use to drop shot for Crappie.
