Youtube is your friend. :)

The beauty of a tarp is that you are only limited by the size and your imagination as to how it can be set up.

A sleeping bag and a cooking pot might be a good idea. Cordage, such as 550 has numerous uses.

First, let me welcome you to the forum. Second, I recommend you use whole words, capitol letters and punctuation if/when you can. The cell phone/IM shorthand is hard to read on a forum.

Yes, I have used tarps for camping many times over the years. Nowdays, I prefer to use a tent for better weather and bug protection. As a compromise between the two, one light and one heavy, I am lusting for a Tarptent Moment.

As for what one needs... that is as individual as the hiker/camper, their season and environment.

You need some way to carry your kit, a backpack, napsack, etc. The type depends on the final weight of your kit and personal preference. You need a way to carry water, and a way to purify more. You need some sort of container to cook in, even if just to boil water for dried foods and drinks. You need a way to start fires. A Bic lighter works, but isn't as "fun" as the firesteels and friction methods. Even we who like to play with these techniques usually carry a Bic or matches as a backup.

Whew! I'll let others pitch in here if they haven't already while I was two-finger typing this much!

Pairing it with a hammock has worked well for me. Hang both between two trees. There is an advanced technique to urinating through the hammock mesh onto the ground without getting up out of bed, sorry no pics :)

there are several good, light silnylon poncho/tarps on the market- going lightweight means multiple use- having your raingear and tent covered w/ 10 oz (minus guy lines/stakes) is pretty nice :)

I'm a sketchy guy I guess.. Not trying to sway you bro..jus tsaying allot of the setups are similar thats all

I'm sure this is vital to using a tarp as a tent.
