I absolutely love craigslist. I've used it for about 3 years, and have found numerous pieces of furniture, short-term jobs, garage sales, I've sold cars there, computer monitors, you name it.

The history of the site is really pretty cool, if you get a chance to check out "craigslist in the news" be sure and do so. Also good for a few good laughs is "the best of craigslist".

So who else here buys and sells, meets and greets, and job hunts on craigslist?

I've perused it, but haven't bought anything yet. Nothing I've needed/wanted had popped up. I have friends who have sold laptops, etc., on it, and have had no complaints.

also, Boston is my nearest metro area listed, so it isn't really worth it for me to look too hard.

it's a l337 site though.

I found an apartment once through Craig's list. It was quick and painless.
I've also used it to find paddle partners.
About four years ago, I met Craig at one of his parties in the bay area. He was pleasant, gregarious, and moved around the room a lot. I ended up having drinks with a flight attendant who was hitting on me and one or two other guys at the same time. Afterwards I passed her phone number on to one of the other guys (I know, you shouldn't really do that, but he seemed alright).

Used it to find a new flat-mate last month, my wife uses it as her home-page, the discussion forums there are her "Bladeforums".

I've never actually used it to acquire anything but have listed items for sale.
No success to report, I'll keep trying.

Things I've done on craiglist.org:

Bought many items at great prices.

Sold stuff I no longer needed.

Given away stuff for free to happy new homes.

Sought and found help regarding a computer router.

Participated in a japanese/english language exchange.

Found volunteers for a youth mountain biking program I help run.

Picked up misc odd jobs for extra cash.

Found a fun group of people who choke, punch, and kick each other.

It really is amazing how you can find specific items like a stock air intake for a '91 Toyota pick up

It does help to live near an urban area where CL is thriving though ;)

Just found out about it last night. Very cool site with awesome giveaways. Like a free sailboat. Sure it needs some work but hey, it's free!

Thanks for the heads up, Danelle. I never knew it existed.

Great, there goes another chunk of my day. :D

I use craigslist but recently found another site , joe barter. newer site with a few items listed but much easier to use and tracks what you have to trade. I'm a student so I really like the textbook trader function on it. I'm still a fan of craigslist but really like this other site too...

Nearest Metro Area (Seattle) is 200 hundred miles away so not much action on CL here in my neck of the woods. I've checked it a few times and it seems useful, but just not for my geographic area...

I've sold several bicycles through Craigslist. I always post a picture, and then offer to send the higher-res pic to any inquirers.

The first one I put up, I got two Nigerian scam types, both easy to spot. (Like, I'm going to ship a 300.00 bike to England....)

Since then, none at all.

Used it, crap, I've never heard of it till now, lol!
I'll check it out for sure! I like diggin through web sites where folks post stuff for sale! Don't buy much but it's fun lookin.

My son lived in L.A. two years ago and used Craig's List for selling his laptop and various iPods. In every case, each party was more than happy with the deal.

I'm planning to use CL at the end of the year to find a "house-sitting" job in L.A. for 6 months so I can finish writing a biography that's been overdue at the publisher for a while. :o (Got a mansion in Bel-Air you'd like me to look after? I have some pretty impressive references. ;) )

Peruse it for the motorcycle adds... and the personals when I'm depressed - man, watching the occassional phlambe-phest :barf: can really pick me up at times! LOL!!! :D And as they go on, I can't look away...

I use it all the time.

Buy, sell and laugh.

Most recently I just bought a motorcycle of craigslist. GREAT site! I used to check it religiously EVERY day.

I got alot but never sold on it.

I like it due to the fact I can do a meet and greet. I have inspected all of my items and met cool people who still support gear I bought from them.

S/F,
CEYA!

12 arrested for prostitution ads on Web

Police in Bucks County have charged 12 women after an investigation into prostitutes who allegedly have been advertising on the website Craigslist.

After police received a tip in August about alleged prostitutes advertising on the site, investigators called cellphone numbers in local listings that advertised "GFEs" — girlfriend experiences — asking for payment in "ro$e$" or "125 donations."

The undercover investigators agreed to meet the women at motels, and almost all 12 were arrested within two minutes, he said.

Several of the women who were arrested had brought along their boyfriends, and five men were arrested on drug charges, police said.

And the beat goes on. :D

This is perfectly ordinary capitalism in action, but I can't imagine anyone dumb enough to show up for a rendezvous like this. They brought their "boyfriends" ... good grief.

Craigslist spokeswoman Sue MacTavish Best said the site cooperates with law enforcement and has a flagging system that allows users to bring prohibited content to the company's attention so it can be removed.
