I am sniffing around to get a Bark River Lil Nessy because ... well, I just want one and I have for awhile. I know many here own one, but who uses theirs on a regular basis? I'd love to hear your impressions, reviews, rants, etc.

I'd be using it as an all-purpose camping chores knife and I wonder how functional and durable it is.

I just ordered one and just got the notice that it's been shipped. I plan to use it when it gets here.:D

Where didja get it? They are getting rather thin on the ground because they've been discontinued, I think.

I'm hoping to trade for one, but I'll just go ahead and order one soon if I can't arrange a swap.

I've been looking at getting a new bark river for a while now. The lil nessy looks pretty neat but I don't like the bolsters on it.

Another knife of theirs is the wolf river. Its not quite a nessmuk but similiar.

Sorry, its a little of topic but just throwing out another design to look at.

I don't care much for the Nessy's bolster either, but I really like the shape of the blade and the overall dimensions.

I have a Lil Nessy and see it the same way you do.... an all-purpose camping knife. I can't speak to durability, because I haven't used it yet (another case of owning too many knives) but it feels good in the hand and I look forward to getting it in the field.

Mine has walnut burl scales. Here's a pic with the BR Northstar:

I think the bolster is there to add strength. I will let it adopt whatever patina comes naturally; don't plan to keep it shiney.

I own one I don't use. Even made a usable, if ugly, sheath for it, and haven't used it.

Its pretty though.

Yeah, the mountain man-style sheath it comes with looks like it sucks. A lot of folks seem to own a Lil Nessy but not use it - that's why I was asking in the original post. Of coirse, you must have more Nessmuks around than you could shake a wet noodle at.

As a matter of fact, Fiddleback made a nice looking sheath for me, and one of these days I'll have that Lil Nessie on my belt in camp. ;)
