Oh yeah both.
A knife is a tool made for use. I try to use all my knives. Except for maybe the sword in pocket, get funny looks when that leaves the house.

Oh yeah, I use my balisongs for most things within reason along with manipulating them.

I was sitting here today, sewing my Son's Tigger Outfit, and clipped the thread with a 42...because there always seems to be one of these tough little buggers lying around.

there was once a time when a friend of mine.. ditzy asian type

was making fun of me and my knives.. yes infamous at work - back in school.. she asked me to cut open her bag of crisps for her. She ofcourse dangled it in front of me.. ofcourse being the fool I am whipped out my 45 latch drop cut it open, closed then put it back in the sheath.

afterwards I thought of how DUMB I was cause if she had flinched even an inch I woudl have cut open both her wrists..

well we were young.. it's acceptable. they didn't ask for a demonstration when I had my Hossom MIllenium 12 inch Bowie on

As has pretty much been said already, the bali is just another knife, and a knife is just another tool.

I use one around my home all the time for cutting stuff, but as they're illegal here the balis always stay at home in the safe when I'm off out. So during those times, I carry something else.

wee! yay for cat5 cable and puching down jacks. i also work with such tools. the other day i installed a LAN in a dentist's office. one of the dentists was a real a$$hole, and complained the whole time about the location of the patch-panel (which was predetermined). bah.

That's what an 'edc' knife is for, to use!!! I've done everything from dig dandylions to cut sheetrock with my 42 or my Bali-Song Cutlery custom skeletonized utility knife. My Seecamp, a sharp knife, and a Photon II flashlight are like an American Express card," Never leave home without them!"

I use mine mostly for a tool. I do not flip them around much, except to see if they function good or not. Often the problem when you use Bali's as a tool, is that it takes both hands to use the latch, in the open or closed position. That takes time. I am really more inclined to grab a knife that I can open and close a little bit more easy with only one hand. But the real advantage to the Balisong is the length of the blade. It's really the only utility bladed knife with a 4 1/2" blade that I have. So if I need a long blade to reach down into a long narrow area, the butterfly is the blade of choice.
