Who wants a new BK14?

Dear Beckerheads...

I don't know where to start, really. I suppose it started somewhere in 2012. A small fixed blade, that's what I wanted.
Now it's 2014, and a couple of fixed blades is what I've got. All of them are Beckers, except for one. All of them, I've enjoyed. And then there's you guys. Entertaining, but also a great source of information. There's laughter, sadness, we share lot's of stories and that's a good thing. What pops out for me is the comradery. Sure there is some teasing here and there, but in the end, people over here really help each other out. I admire that. I've been baffled a lot by the kindness in this little place on the big old interwebs.
It started with a small fixed blade 2 years ago, which ended up being the BK14, and I can't really grasp the quantity of things I've ended up with until now. More blades, e-friends (if that's a thing, but I believe it is), good times...
Almost two months ago I started with my first job too. So now that I've got the $$, it's time to give back to you guys.
What would be a better knife to give away than the one that started this journey for me(the BK14)? For me, there's couldn't be a better one. That's thé symbolic BK&T knife for me. It's the one that started it all for me, the one that gets used most, even today. That's the one I want some of you guys out there to enjoy.

RULES
1. Entries are open for BECKERHEADS & ASPIRING Beckerheads. If you belong to the last category, please do participate. I've been one of you as well and you guys contribute a lot of stuff here, too! I'll know it if you post at the BK&T subforum, or have posted here before in some quantity.
2. ONE entry per person
3. Open WORLDWIDE
4. Must own a BK&T knife, you'll need it for the contest. I don't care if you already have a BK14 or even multiple. Here's your chance to win another one.
5. Contest will run 2 to 3 weeks. I'll see when it starts to slow down. I will update with a notice when I'll be about to close the contest.
6. A random number generator will be used to pick the winner.
7. Keep chatting to a minimum. I'd have a lot of work with the random number generator otherwise :)

WHAT DO I WANT YOU TO DO
1. Have fun. Do something with a Becker knife. Cook something. Make something. Fix something. Be it indoors or outdoors, I don't care. Don't hurt something or someone for the sole purpose of this contest though.
2. Do n°1 with a BK&T knife of your choice.
3. Take at least 3 (THREE) pictures of what you're doing and post them in this thread. Tell your fellow knife enthousiast what you were doing in the pics.
4. They have to be new pics. Nothing you've done yesterday or before that. Do something after this thread gets posted.

Well, that's about it. What are you still doing there reading this? :D

Here's my 14, the one that started it all, next to a cup of pineneedle tea (not pee). This knife is not the prize though!

The one you'll receive will probably be a brand spanking new (laser etched/tougher coating) BK14. The knife will be sent from an online retailer, based in the US. I have already made my preparations for that.

Have at it ;-)

I'm in. I will post pics tonight since I am cooking dinner. My BK15 is my favourite kitchen knife.

I will be making tine needle pee ;)....I'm in, gotta go do something first tho, and take some pics. Thank you for the chance.

EDIT: OK, I had planned to use my 13 to cut a stencil to etch onto my 9, but that might be too difficult. you can see the start of it in these pics, which is me using my 13 to cut some Velcro® for my BK&T patch from Jonny (thanks again, man). Not a big project, but it'll have to suffice. The 13 worked awesome going through the HD Velcro®, BTW.

Thanks for this very generous GAW, G-shark.

Not a Beckerhead - in part because I haven't been here long enough to meet the post requirement...not sure if I am "aspiring" because my knife interests are quite varied. I do have a few BKs, though - both Camillus and KaBar (mostly KaBar).
I have been tossing around the idea of grabbing one of the little ones; but I'd never paid any attention to them when we were both in the same place at the same time, so I'm not sure if it will be a good fit. I may jump in on this one, since it may be the easiest way to get a feel for the "necker" size....but I'd either throw it right back into the pool, or pay it forward in similar fashion (if I decide to keep it).

Regardless - this is a very nice gesture, and the main reason for this post is to acknowledge that.

Guess I'll make this an entry.
I was going to do a strip & re-scale on a BK15 for this, but the kirinite hasn't gotten here yet (which is why the pictured knife still has stock scales, as well)
Between my work schedule and the snow, I'm not likely to get much outdoors knife play in the next week or so; so the '16 got kitchen duty.

It didn't really have a role in this shot, but I needed one more picture

Cool! What about chatting?

Updated the rules.

I'm in! (Will update.)

So...it's snowing. And it's cold. So..what can I do with Beckers? (Besides pimp them.)

{Part one of two}

Build a shelter!

That keeps the snow off of me at least. But it's still cold!

{Part two of two}

Build a fire!

Wood:

Fire lay:

I can't feather stick like some of you guys, so I used cotton balls and vaseline + a ferro rod to light it. (Oh yeah, the custom from Big Chris helped too...)

Looks like home!

Thanks for the chance!

I'm in and I'm a Beckerhead!!! I built/made a fire with the kids tonight using my sesssssy BK2

Battoning some wood into smaller pieces

Taking an attractive picture for the contest

Hope this is good enough for the contest. Didn't take too many pics Beckerwise, but figured it would work for the contest. Thanks for the chance.

Thanks for the opportunity, G-shark. I'm in. Will update. Already have plans for a 9 mod and this will help move the project along.

Well, the mod is taking longer than I expected so I guess I'll post what I did with one of my 9s earlier this week and post up the mods later. :D

First, went out to the east pasture that is overgrown with mesquite trees
Mesquite Scrub Field.jpg

Then started chopping on mesquite limbs to clear out lower limbs so I can go back through later with a chain saw to take'm down to the ground.
BK9 and Mesquite Stump 1.jpg

The limbs that were nearly as thick as a BK9 blade is wide would take 50 - 60 hits to chop out. Some of that is due to how hard mesquite is on normal day, some due to the "give" in a limb when it is still attached to a tree, and some due to the sap starting to ooze up through the tree stumps and limbs.
BK9 and Mesquite Stump 2.jpg

And after all that, I went and played with some skunk road-kill for the Becker Scavenger Hunt thread.

Took my 2 with me to Colorado this year

This one was so hard to take without
Dropping my Becker, phone, or myself off the lift.

With the help of my BK5, I put a crock pot of Jewish Sweet and Sour Cabbage Soup on before leaving for work yesterday. Really great on a cold, blustery day to get home from work and have hot soup ready for dinner. I based it on a recipe I found on-line:
http://www.food.com/recipe/mel-markons-sweet-and-sour-cabbage-soup-179056

I used a couple of one pound sirloins (the "beefy-est" tasting cut according to Alton Brown) instead of the short rib to make it easier. Just cut it into cubes, brown in a skillet, and add to the crock pot. I hit it with a little salt and pepper, and seared it in olive oil.

Cabbage cut up into 1" cubes.

And a medium sized yellow onion was diced.

I only had enough room for eight (8) cups of water rather than the twelve that the recipe called for, but it turned out well. If you want it "soupier", you'll have to use a larger crock pot or stock pot. Was really great with some toasted Jewish rye bread.

Thanks for the chance, G-Shark!

I would love to put up a better pic but I am living in a hotel for another week and a half so my options are limited. I decided to use my bk13 to track and kill a very ferocious steak and cheese sub from subway.... It was touch and go for a minute but me and #13 came out on top... To celebrate i will not gut /skin the carcass but eat it whole. Oh and I'm in for the contest

I just received my first Becker (BK9) a few days ago and would like the chance to win it a ....Becker Buddy ???

This morning it went with to check one of my home brew trail cameras that's set up for predators then off to do some batoning for a fire.

Below is the trail camera location, and what the camera is after, 9 still nice and new.

Here is how the 9 traveled during this short outing

Batoning location prior to getting started.

BK9's current buddy a nice black color like a Becker and a useful tool at times but just not a Becker.....

Packing up to head back home, not so new looking any more.

I didn't bother taking fire pictures already a few in this thread. ;)
