Who wants a "new model?" Sign up time.

engagements, tho. I'll wait for the few that'll trickle thru after the inital run. I have a feeling that with the YCS gone, this'll fill the spot and be a fave.

Best come up with a name fer it quick, Bill. How bout "Yvsa Half-moon Special" or "Brendan's two-dog splitter"...

Keith

Actually, I was thinking something more along the lines of "Baby Berk"...

Or mabye BDC - Baby Dui Chirra

Or "Bura Dui Chirra" - has a ring to it. ;)

The 10 incher could be Baby Bura Dui Chirra - BBDC.

:D

Uh......"Cabbage Katne":footinmou  :p

Sarge

p.s.: if Bura tagged it with the name "New Model", then regardless of all else I'll continue to think of it as a B.N.M. (Bura New Model);)

edited to add: hmmm, 10" version = BNM-1, 14" version = BNM-2, short and simple, just my two "tax free" cents

Sarge, "new model' works great until the next "new model'...

hmmm..what do advertising agencies reccomend to manufacturers in situations like these? Oh, I know; "Khukuri Master 9000"

The "Khukuri Master 9000", it slices, it dices, makes thousands of julienne fries, AND, if you act now we'll throw in these two fantastic accessory knives all for the low, low, price of $19.95.....pan to a scene of a grinning Uncle Bill carving a decorative watermelon centerpiece with the amazing "Khukuri Master 9000". Late night TV Americana gone horribly wrong.

Sarge

it's hard to imagine a grinning Uncle Bill under those circumstances. Now, an Uncle Bill who while cutting the melon, suddenly looks up, stops what he's doing and goes after the producers...

sounds good! KM-9000! Buy one today!

I think that the Movie Model should be renamed Himalayan Snake's Bane in honor of Pappy.

I'd call it the Belly Buster... look at the belly on that knife.
Though half-moon splitter certainly has a nice ring to it!
Can't wait to get my grubby paws on one. :)

call it the pregnant guppy for all I care.

The Gelbu really deserves the snake's bane title, I'm thinking. The movie is a little heavy for quick snaps.

I like the Baby Dui Chirra for the offical title.
My buddy Larry made the wood model for this khukuri. He had copied it from a small old khukuri in the J.Powell collection.
We got it tested today and it performed great. Larry and I both cut alot of limbs from 1/4 to 3/4" with one cut. The blade was still shaving sharp. Another fine khukuri from H.I.
There are pics of the wood model and the Baby Dui Chirra on the Sarki Shop website.
Uncle and Bura thanks for another perfect khukuri.
God Bless.

Terry,

"BDC" - nice, eh?

Has a ring to it.

Almost like "EDC"...;)

The wood model Larry made - is the blade painted wood, or steel? Looks great! Also, looks like Bura made an exact copy down to the gentle curve in the fuller. Excellent work!

BTW, does Larry have any suggestions for a name?

Dan

Pen,
BDC sounds good to him. The model is all wood with painted blade and bolster. Or The Okie Billy Bob khukuri.:D
God Bless.

since the original design came from John Powell's collection, and since that John Powell has been THE source of knowledge and assistance to everyone connected with khukuris, and since the new baby doesn't yet have a definite name.....

Might not the name some how honor John Powell?

Kismet,
The original in John's collection was quite a bit different. It had a rat tail partial tang. My buddy used the blade shape and changed to the slab handle and no buttcap. He did'nt want an exact copy of the small khukuri but something that worked for him as a daily carry/useing knife. There should be a pic of the original khukuri in the J.P.colection pics in the FAQ page.
It's on page 6 (the baby kothimora). I forgot to add he also changed the cho, made it bigger and a little nicer shaped.
God Bless.
Terry
edited to add info.

Could someone explain the difference between the new model and the Pen knife? I have seen pics of both but as I do not own any kukuris, I am rather ignorant of the finer details. It looks like the new model may fit my purposes for light chopping/skinning such as elk field dressing and still be light enough to hump up the mountains with. Thank you for your time.

Whoops! Original post deleted. Unexpected mail call. I wasn't expecting for another month.

Tip to tip 11 inches Bolster to pointy sharp blade tip is 7 inches. Hmm lost 1/2 somewhere in my measurements. Depends on how you measure the handle. Inside or outside curve.

11 oz Two deep fullers really lightens it up.

Very sharp

Bura

Chiruwa horn handle, beautifully polished and well fitted to tang. Handle is 3.5 inches from bolster to butt, a tiny bit small but I have small hand. Putting part of grip on bolster , good for slicing.

Karda and Chakma a bit small, but well made and Karda sharp. Not really necessary for this knife but tradition prevails.

Scabbard well made with HI Frog. Two nails holding leather overlap down, which I don't remember seeing before. Will add a little Bondino to preclude possible loosening.

Overall a nice knife to use around the camp or kitchen.

Any chance of getting a 14" or it is too late?
It looks like the Mineral Mountain NS Skinner I got from Ted

Look here

It has almost the same size than the 10 incher.

Each grid line equals one inch.

I'll leave the commenting up to the rest of the gang.

As for the Pen Knife - it was designed specifically for hunting, camping, etc.

I think the 14" BDC will do great as well.

Oh, and Welcome! beyondmyken
