Life is as far as I got. We moved several times throughout my Boy Scout "career", and I never finished Eagle after the last move. Think I had two merit badges and the Eagle project left to go.
When I joined the Army, I got rank for college credits, but discovered that Eagle Scouts going in as enlisted men also got an automatic one rank increase. Don't know if that holds true today.
Aside from time spent with my grandfather, Scouting is responsible for most of my childhood memories of the outdoors. I was fortunate enough to be in a very active troop when we lived in southwest TN. Had a farmer in northern MS that let us use a large section of wooded property for permanent campsites and trails, plus we made trips to places like the battlefields at Shiloh, Vicksburg, and another one in Arkansas that I can't remember the name of, hiking trails on the Natchez Trace, etc. Great memories.
