Just a SAK? Most of the time I carry my Climber or Explorer, and now I have a Rambler in a pouch on my belt as a backu (and for a phillips when I have the Climber).

The reason I ask is that a lot of people carry locking single-blade folders for self defense, the lock, the cool factor, one-hand cutting, blade steel issues etc. I am of the type that doesn't need one-hand opening or locking blades, so I like to just carry a SAK when possible. Just wondering who else out there finds sufficiency in Victorinox/Wenger/CCC's ( :barf: )

I'm down to just a sak for edc . I have spent alot of time and money looking for the perfect edc . What a shock it was to find that a $15 sak from wal-mart was as close to perfect as I could get . " For me anyway . " I do add a hunting knife when in the field but other than that I carry a tinker or my favorite , the fieldmaster .

I did it for a while with a Victorinox Soldier, and I know that I can handle most/all of my normal everyday chores with the SAK. I know this because I have used this knife hard, and it has come through for me every time.

Sooooo, I don't need one-hand opening or locking blades...but I take great satisfaction in such knives, and so I enjoy carrying both my Victorinox Soldier along with a locking one-hander every day :)

After an accident at age 12 with a Cub Scout slipjoint, I just won't carry the things. However, I've started carrying a Benchmade 310 Benchmite. It's a wee bit of a knife but has a lock, too.

I carry a SAK pretty much exclusively these days. If I feel the need for one handed action, I just carry my One Handed Trekker. I have many other locking folders, many with much higher grade steels, but when it comes down to pocket time, the SAKs are the winners.

I have a SAK climber in my glove box all the time. I'm on the verge of putting it in my pocket instead of my Spyderco Delica these last few days :)

Funny how many people have "pricey" knives yet carry a $20 SAK in their pocket. :D

I usually EDC a SAK, but I always have a larger one blade locking folder on me. I like being able to just whip out a blade and make a cut, call me impatient. :) For example, the other day I was walking down the walk in my back yard and there was a small tree limb hanging down in my face. Out came the Ritter Grip, flipped it open, slashed the offending branch with one swipe, caught it in my left hand, flipped the blade closed (right hand), and never stopped walking. Tossed the branch in the brush pile and got in the car.

If I was doing this with my SAK, I'd have to stop, dig the SAK out of my pocket with my left hand, open the wood saw with two hands, grab and hold the branch, start sawing (and on a thinner branch it might whip around and be a real pain in the arse), possibly get saw dust in my eyes "Ah! SOB!" and have to stop to get it out, then take the cut branch and put it down so I can close up the wood saw with two hands and return it to my pocket, bend over and pick up the branch and FINALLY be on my way!

I just don't have that kind of time! I need to watch my time so I can come here and post!

The only non-SAK that I ever (seldom) carry is my CRK Mnandi.
I have found my perfect EDC knife.....The Victorinox Settler. It goes just about everywhere with me. I have several other SAKs that I carry in rotation. Lately I have been carrying my Scientist along with my Settler.

I carry both an SAK and a one hand opener. The SAK is usually for food prep when I take my break and even at home I'm more likely to reach in my pocket and pull out an SAK that dig through a drawer for a knife.

I'd never cut food with my other EDC (right now a Camillus Heat) because it does all the dirty work. Even though I do wipe it down at the end of the day, it gets a lot of use and I don't want that near my food.

Today I EDC'ed my almost obligatory Cuda MAXX and a SAK Recruit. On most days at school, I carry just the SAK. I find the SAK handy for most little chores around the house and everywhere. But surprisingly at work, I use my one-handed work knife almost exclusively for all cutting chores, even with the SAK in my pocket.

A couple of other EDC setups I use: Case Mid-Folding Hunter Blue Jigged Scales and SAK Recruit/Pocket Pal or Typhoon Balisong and SAK Recruit/Pocket Pal

I'm considering a one handed SAK Parachutist for EDC carry, but I will still carry it with my "tactical" folder.

No matter what else is in my pockets, either on me or in my day pack is a SAK!

These days it's a Vic' Craftsman.

I keep the smallest version of the SAK on my keychain. I got tired of my wife complaining because I wouldn't cut things with my EDCs. I can't believe how much I use that thing. I saw them for sale at WalMart for $8 or $9.

Wenger Tinker (old model like Tinker) is with me from 1996 and now still is a part of my EDC package. Have to say that I use it for most small cutting tasks in the office. I have also one-hand folder (different types rotated depending on situation).

I pretty much just carry a Bantom Alox these days, or sometimes my Dad's old barlow. I've got a bunch of others, just don't carry them.

I also carry a SAK as my EDC. I really like the Alox Bantam. It is very thin and rides in my left back pocket. It is thinner than a pocket comb and can sit on it as if it is not there. When it comes out it can turn screws, open bottles and cans and works on phillips screws also. (It also can cut.)

It has everything I need for urban carry and it does not scare the sheeple. I feel it is better to be known as handy than tactical. :)

My favorite all-time EDC has been a Victorinox Executive model since I bought one in 1976 while visiting a friend who was in the army at Fort Bragg NC.

Its got about everything I need on a daily basis (2 knife blades, scissors, nail file, screw-driver/orange peeler (never peeled an orange with it!), tweezers and toothpick.

I remove the key-chain ring, as it catches on pocket threads and eventually makes a hole in your pocket. I wish the hole for the keyring was a bit bigger so that I could add my own small leather lanyard.

A phillips screw driver would be nice, but I often use the nail cleaning end of the nail file for phillips screws.

I feel naked without this knife!

I will..when they make the SAK with all the stuff I use in a compact package. (Main blade, tweezers, can opener, cap lifter (along with the associated scredrivers), corkscrew and the micro screw driver+ scissors. That's all I ask

i always carry a sak as part of my edc but usually have a one hand open folder of some kind with a pocket clip just because it's easier to get to and use to cut something.
