Who where carries...

When I'm leaving the house, I always carry my Champ with me. Because you never know what will happen... :D

I EDC a SAK 90% of the time, and the other 10% usually finds me regreting not having one (like today, when I needed to open a Corona :D ).

Like some have answered, I pair a SAK with a single blade knife that features one-hand-opening, a lock, and a pocket clip. Today I made a several quick cuts with my small Sebbie (opened different packages that came my way at various times throughout the day), and like Wade, I found it more convenient than fishing for a SAK and using two hands to open it (which I didn't have anyway  ). I was done cutting by the time it would have taken me to just get the SAK out of my pocket.

Anyway, I'm not a "SAK only" guy -- needs to be with one-hand locking knife.

I have EDC'ed a SAK or equivalent scout knife for around 45 years. In that time I have had occasions where I wished my SAK had a one-hand-opening function, but I don't think it would average out to more than a once a year occurance. In that same interval I would guess that I used the other tools on my SAK at least once a month each. There are six extra tools on my SAK. So I use the extra tool feature on my SAK 72-times (12 x 6) as often as I would practically benefit from having a one-hand-opening feature.

My SAK has a locking 3.25" blade that is perfectly capable of chopping off errant branches. The lock also protects my fingers. My fingers are additionally protected by the availability of tools for poking and prying with greater safety than using a knife blade.

I don't really like knives clipped to my pockets. It interferes with getting things out of them. My SAK rides vertically in my back pocket alongside my wallet. It creates no bulges and is easy to extract even when I am sitting down. I save my fancier knives for hunting or climbing. Climbing is the only activity that really demands one-hand opening edge in my life. There are times when I would like each of the blades in my SAK to have assisted opening. An auto can opener would be pretty cool.

I EDC'd a SAK and only a SAK for about seven years. I used it with abandoned, never worrrying about it breaking or losing it. It handled just about everything I threw at it. I still carry at least one SAK (lately, the Cybertool 41 for over a year) as part of my EDC. The funny thing about it is this. If for some reason I ever leave home without the larger, single blades; I feel comfortable and well parepared with just a SAK. Surprising (to me at least) since I now carry such 'great' single blades (not to knock any knife) such as the Sebenza and Emerson CQC-11.

I did........until I found this cursed place!!!

Me too. For many years I used to carry only a black Victorinox Explorer and everything was fine, now I have to select between larger SAKs, Leathermans or Spydercos depending on situation (usually some sort of combination of those).

I either have an Explorer or climber with me. I too have the expensive folders, but always seem to have the SAK with me, but have to decide which folder I want to carry, if one at all. Lately it has just been my Explorer plus. I still like the folders, don't get me wrong, but I can do the same thing with my SAK, and not feel so bad if i lose it, or if something happens to it. I will always purchase the expensive folders, but my trusty SAK will always be in my pocket first.

I'm partial to the Stockman pattern so it's the only style of knife that comes even close to my SAK's for pocket time these days.

I EDC a Voyager Lite and I love it. It has everything I need. Occasionally, if I feel I need a more robust and quickly-deployed blade, I'll add a Spyderco Calypso Jr. to the mix.

If I feel the Voyager Lite is going to be too big (my wife likes me to wear tighter jeans, she thinks they're trendier and yes I'll admit I am whipped), I will carry a Vic Soldier or Farmer. I have a Solo on order--I don't know, there's just something about a simple slipjoint blade . . .

If anyone ever doubts the usefulness of an SAK... the bottle opener can be used to turn a lock with a broken key jammed in it, how many thin tipped tacticals can do that?

We have a motorized shopping cart at work and months ago we broke the key off in the ignition, purposefully in the on position, because we kept losing it. Somehow today the ignition (for lack of a better word) got turned off. The first thing I did was whip out my Camillus Heat, when I realized that the tip would never take the torque, I was stumped, but only briefly. In my other pocket is my trusty Vic Soldier. I popped open the bottle opener, stuck it in the key hole and with a turn the cart was back up and running.

I came home from work recently and found a key broken off flush in the door lock. I got out the awl blade on my sak, dug it a little way into the side of the key stub and levered out the fragment. I don't worry about the point on the awl blade, it can take it.

I carry and use a SAK every day. My usual EDC is a Camper model. It offers the assortment of tools I like with the least bulk. At times I carry a Pioneer Farmer instead.

When I am camping on the weekends I like the Rucksack model for its longer blade, lock and longer saw. As well I find the handle to be a bit for comfortable under hard use. The Outrider is another solid choice.

I also keep a Swisstool in my car, a Spirit in my briefcase and a classic is on my key ring.

I will sometimes add another knife, either a Opinel for fine cutting or a Benchmade 710 M2 for heavy work, but for day to day carry it is the simple SAK which gets the nod.

If I wasn't an unreconstructable knife knut , I'd probably only EDC a SAK . As it is I carry a SAK and a locking folder of some type .

I almost always carry my Explorer with me. When I don't I feel naked and if I carry another knife and not the SAK I miss the tools.

I've taken to carrying my 110 on my belt and the SAK in my pocket. The belt pouch is always bothering me but the Explorer dissapears in my pocket until its needed.

I used to always carry a SAK, along with an Endura. After a while, I realized the only thing I used on the SAK was the toothpick so I stopped carrying it. I kinda miss the toothpick. :)

I still carry the first swiss army knife I ever owned. It used to have a hiker on the scales, but they are long gone (they melted in alcohol- I was soaking the knife in it to clean resinous gook off the blade) It has large and small blades, saw, can opener, bottle opener, corkscrew and awl. If I need a larger blade, I have a Buck 110 or Battle Rat at hand. But Most of my daily cutting at work is done with an X-acto knife. :D

vic tinker most everyday, but I do pair it with an endura or gunting depending on where I'm going. The Gunting is fantastic, but makes a lousy screwdriver.

i carry a swisschamp everyday on my belt, but i have a electrician plus that is waiting for me at the local knife store, when i get it its gona see lots of pocket time.

im debateing getting a leatherman wave or a chargeTi, but im not sure i'll find it anymore usefull then my swiss champ.

To be perfectly honest (we're among friends here) I think that 95% of knife-related tasks can be accomplished with a well-chosen SAK. My Swisschamp is my EDC.

It's the other 5% that costs us so much!

For many years a Rambler was my only EDC blade. I recently added a Serbertool M4, which has another blade which is as small but locking. When I leave the house I have a Juice CS4. I don't carry a knife-only tool.

I live and work in an urban environment and a SAK/multitool is all I usually need. I don't go around cutting branches down because they belong to other people. I don't fish or skin deer. I probably use the scissors as often as the blade. A few months ago I bought a couple of Ritter Grips; until then I didn't have what you guys would call a decent knife at all. I still don't have a proper fixed-blade knife. Part of why I am here is to learn what I should buy in that department, but I'm in no hurry.
