Who will dethrone Ronda Rousey???

I said it before the fight, no one has hit Rousy as hard or as often as Holm will. I fully expected Rousy to win, but I was a closet Holm supporter. Holm took the Liddell model of good striker with good takedown defense and moved it to the women's division. Now, was it a fluke? Can she beat her again? We'll have to see, as there is a rematch in there somewhere, though it might not be Holm's first title defense.

I thought Holm would lose in the first round after seeing what happened to Correia. So, I was peeking at the stats as the fight progressed on UFC's website (too cheap to buy pay per view), kinda expecting the expected, the loss. But, when I noticed the fight going longer, and the strikes adding up I was excited that this might be a little different.

I hope this doesn't mean fall from grace for Ronda (weight gain, drugs, whatever), but it must suck to have that kind of image build up and then come crashing down, especially since she's like a corporate brand it seems. On the good side, she will now discover who her real friends and supporters are, and joe rogan will talk about her a little less.

Although Ronda's childhood story is quite inspirational, I like Holm's personality a lot more.
 
Rousey will never beat her. Holm is stronger, faster and can knock her ass out. I can't see Rousey ever being able to handle her. Look at how cut Holm is. Rousey met more than her match. Holm is strong enough to keep her from throwing her. Rousey will never get past those fists and kicks.

Agreed. Terrible match up for Rousey, style-wise. When she can't be the bully she wilts. Same thing would happen against Cyborg. Plus, anyone else notice Rousey gassed after 3 minutes? Her fights are so short her gas tank hasn't been tested.
 
I'm glad she got knocked out. She was too mouthy and cocky. She deserved a bloodied nose and cut lip. Maybe it will shut her up.

Same here. She really needed to get punched in the mouth. Holm seems like a humble, grateful chick, which makes the beat down that much better.
 
I watched a post fight interview with Dana White and the man looked ready to cry.

Was impressed to see Ronda picked up and slammed.
 
I think Rousey finally ran into someone that was at her level and, when she realized it, broke her game plan and tried to power through. Can't afford to go head-to-head with a professional champion boxer/kickboxer.
Ronda is pretty damn good at quite a few different aspects of the game. Namely Judo and BJJ. Her main trainer works with boxers primarily and she has definitely improved her striking game.
But compared to Holm? Holly has relied on her striking her entire professional career (4-5 pro kickboxing fights, 38 professional boxing bouts) took that experience to MMA. Can't stand with her. You have to jab your way in, take her to the ground, make her uncomfortable and make her tap.
 
Holm is too good on her feet and powerful enough to throw Rousey, as well as break free. She's bigger and stronger, hits hard and kicks harder. Rousey will never defeat her.

If Holm can put together a decent ground game, paired with a strong takedown defense, throw in some knees/elbows for fun, she could hold onto that title for a pretty long time.
 
Hopefully this outcome motivates the women of the 135 to train even harder. The illusion that Ronda is untouchable is gone forever.
 
Look at the bands of muscle in her forearm. Her legs are really great. Can Ronda say OWWWWW!!:p

I don't watch sports for the most part. Maybe a heavyweight boxing match but that's about it.

Just to see what the hype was all about I watched this fight on you tube.

It's funny, I was mentioning this to my coworkers the night before, that HH's KO/TKO's have often happened by head kick. I swore up and down that Ronda wouldn't be stupid enough to stand and trade, but after the first round, I thought to myself "Ronda, if you keep this up, you're gonna get kicked in the head and KO'd". I think Ronda was trying to prove something, and failed.

Regardless, Miesha Tate needs to shut up. He's been kinda gloating over RR getting KO'd, as though this negates the fact that twice Ronda bent her arm back in an unnatural direction. I expect the UFC to give Ronda an immediate rematch, but personally, I'd rather see a 3rd fight between Ronda and Miesha to decide who challenges Holly Holm for the title. I know it's weird to give a fighter a 3rd title shot against the same opponent, but I still felt Miesha got screwed/passed over in favor of Holm. Obviously, hindsight is 20/20 in this case, Holm having won. I guess the other option is a rematch between Rousey and Cat Zingano, since Cat lost because YOU DON'T THROW A FLYING KNEE AND CLINCH WITH A 4TH DAN BLACKBELT IN JUDO. Maybe give Cat the rematch with Ronda and Miesha the title shot, then the winner of the Ronda/Cat fight the title shot against the winner of the championship fight. Knowing Dana White though, he'll probably give Ronda the immediate rematch.
 
I don't see Rousey as having much choice other than to chase Holm and get tagged. She couldn't close and hold Holm, when she managed to catch her, Holm just got away and went back to dancing around hitting Rousey with hard straight lefts. Kicking her pretty much at will. Rousey is a one trick fighter, she met someone who has take down defense, that's bigger stronger and has great striking ability. Holm is a big strong girl, she used to weigh over 200 pounds! I just don't think Rousey will ever be able to dominate her the way she has other opponents.
