Something about her really rubs me the wrong way. She seems like she thinks she knows more than she really does and is living on false information. I like how she talks about, "Oh, I worked with drug addicts for two years, one or two rounds of 9 MM won't stop them," and then goes on to talk about, "Oh, these people aren't fire arm proficient...they only go to the range every once in a while...". :jerkit:
Then on top of that there's just far too much generalization wrapped up in common sense. Of course people that aren't mobile aren't going to make it, but then she goes on to talk about who she thinks will and won't be mobile. I'll tell you guys right now that people are amazing; I've got a friend who is 63 years old with multiple sclerosis that just hiked 37 miles through rugged mountain terrain over the weekend. I'm pretty sure if I asked this woman what her thoughts on the odds of a disabled senior citizen making it, she would never even consider something like this.
Anyway, not that I have a problem with people generalizing, I've just seen enough to know that you shouldn't have your mind made up about things. When the shit hits the fan, I think the people the least likely to survive will be those too wrapped up in their own ideas of what's going to happen to learn and adapt.
I mean, I doubt she'll really be as cut out for it as she thinks she is, talking about "looting" as if she really thinks she'll retain the same values concerning theft in that type of world. Do people even consider the fact that, in a SHTF world that any resources you can find probably belonged to someone before, and could serve someone other than yourself. "Looting" and "stealing are all synonymous with "scavenging" in this situation--the euphemistic zeal society has put on the words quickly disintegrates along with society. The idea of taking advantage of someone else not being the right thing to do just shows she has no idea how it's like to live with your own survival being paramount.
Personally, if I had to typify her, I'd say she was the bleeding heart that tries too hard to prepare for life because they're uncomfortable not being in control. I mean, the idea of her talking about the "yuppies" not being able to admit that they were wrong could just as easily apply to her, and I seriously doubt she's in any better of a position to admit she's wrong. Simply put, when her ideals and morals are jeopardized, so will her survival be jeopardized, because she's not willing to separate the two and probably doesn't understand the need to.
