Who would be interested in a run of the Samsher model?

I'd be interested in seeing some comparisons between the samsher and other HI models...

The pic shows (top) a 17" 26 oz Ganga Ram, (middle) an 18" 33 oz Samsher by Bura, with chandan wood handle and white metal fittings and (bottom) a 17" 28 oz M43 with Hill Walnut handle by Bura. The Samsher is the same one that appears solo in a pic post I made earlier in this thread, the same one I bought from olpappy. Both the Samsher and the M43 are fitted with silver. Note that the GR appears a bit shorter due to the camera angle, but it measures a smidge over 17":

The second pic shows a 17" 23 oz Foxy Folly at top, with the same Samsher in the middle and the M43 at the bottom:

IMO and experience, the Samsher's five extra ounces really make themselves known after twenty swings or so, as compared to the M43. I've found that the curvature of the M43 has grown on me with use, but I do like the Samsher in it's own way even though I use it the least of the four. The GR gets used the most, then the FF, then the M43.

I have one called a Sgt Karka Special that is about the same but it is around 30 oz?? Too heavy for sustained work in the woods for sure.

I'm okay with what norm said. More Shamshers, std. bolsters, metal fittings, and mix up the woods for the handles. That way they'll come in, and those folks who want chandan, can go for it. And those of us who want horn, or hill walnut, or neem, or any of the other neat handle materials can hang out. And besides, if you ask for mixed handle material, then an antler shamsher is bound to show up sometime.;)

I think that is one sweety khuk. I would love to order one. However, I do plan to cut my ordering back for a substantial while. Mostly because I want to get some real usage out of the ones I've collected so far. But secondly because I'll have no business spending $ on knives for some time. Been pointed out to me lately, here, several times.

I'm gonna assume that the one pointing out that you have no business spending $ on knives for some time is the female in your life???? :grumpy:

Tell her that she has 'nuff dayumed shoes and handbags and that if you have to quit then she has too as well!!!!  :D :o ;)

She has mentioned it yes. She is not a spender though. And her career has done very well this year. (Much better than mine.) But...Someone here told me today I could buy a beater car for what I spent on HI knives.:(

I am in like flynn, even if it's a villager style. I need a fighter to practice with. I should use my M43 but I want a wood handle one.

I'd probably get one at the lighter weight and longer length...

But, I'd really like something like this at 16"/32oz. or 16.5/33oz.

It's funny you say that because I'd like to see that too. I'm not really a fan of say 18" 2 lbs for some reason it is harder on the wrist, but in the shorter length the heaviness is not as hard on your wrist. Maybe cause the weight is not as far out on the end of the thing?

Looks like the interest is pretty good.

How's this sound?

We'll ask Yangud to make a bunch of Samsher models in the 17-18" length, and let the weight vary between 26 - 32 oz. We'll ask for a traditional metal bolster and larger karda/chakma. And then can use whatever they want for the handle, provided there is some variety.

Sound ok to everybody?

Thanks for the pics and comments Noah.

I have one Bura samsher at 18" and 30 oz. It came with a beautiful chandan handle that cracked after awhile - like others experienced. At 4.25" it is a little too short for my liking so I am debating what to do with it.

I would vote for 18", 28 oz. like some others but with a longer handle up to 5".

There will be some variation in weight, and less on length, due to any model being hand made. Perhaps any order can accomodate those who want a little shorter and lighter piece and also those who want a little longer and heavier piece.

The first Foxy Follies were not to "spec", but they all found homes. Variants are welcome in any model IMHO.
