Okay guys, This is officially my 1000th post in Becker Knife and Tool. And it's time to do a giveaway/contest.

So this is what I came up with. We all are here because of our love for becker knives, many of us on the recommendation of others, or the internet or a gifted blade. I know I wandered this a way when OREGON FAL'ER got me a BK11. Beckers are infectious, it's obvious by our steadily growing collections. So the intentions of this contest is to perpetuate that idea of "spreading the love", or getting more people into these knives. I don't know about you guys, but there is something special about gifting a blade to someone else. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that blades will last longer than you will, or the fact that there is some level of trust handing another something sharp or what, but that's what this contest is. So here we go!

I want you to post up a pic, description, video, epic novel, song, poem, whatever about a person that you would give a becker knife to and why. This contest isn't about you, but someone important in your life. (oh wait, there is a prize for you too but forget about that part) Is it someone that you're trying to show how cool knives are? Is it someone who you're trying to introduce to the outdoors? Is it someone that may need a decent knife and just doesn't have one? Is it your kid? your grandma? your neice? Is it your friend? Your enemy? (hope not :P) Is it someone you kinda know? Or is it your best bud or family member?

So pick the person you think needs a becker knife. Then, pick out a becker knife for them. (please a production one that is easy to acquire) Then tell me why. don't just shoot for a knife you like, but think about what they'd like. FAL'ER got me an 11. I needed a small but sturdy blade to carry around. Not a BK9. (lies everyone needs a 9) For my sister, I recently gifted her a 16. She has a few small blades and things, but needed a decent sturdy bushcrafting blade for out in the woods. Gwen liked the 13 because it's cute and easy to carry. Maybe this person you're thinking of needs a chopper. Maybe they need a 4 or 9. Maybe they need an all purpose blade like a 2 or 7. Anywho what I'm saying is think about it for a sec.

Short version: Pick a person in your life you think deserves a knife tell me why.

My sister will be helping me judge this.

PRIZES:

That knife you'd gift? Well you win it, and then you give it to that person. (current production beckers only)

for you: (no you probably don't need one but most of us are pirates and like somethin in it for us :P) a becker blade that compliments your collection. What are you missing? a chopper? a necker? a tweener? Maybe you want friendship blades of the same model? If you don't need a blade perhaps a sheath? We'll discuss it.

So rules:

BECKERHEADS ONLY. If you become one during the duration of the contest - cool.

You may chat or ask questions but I want this thread to stay very strictly on topic. PM me if you want too. If you post telling me how you don't want to participate I will be very unhappy.

You have to gift that blade to your person or else.

Contest ends June 27th.

EXAMPLE:

This is my sister and I heart her very much. I would love to gift her a BK16 because she needs a decent bushcrafting blade. I am trying to get her into outdoorsy stuff and we spend lots of time in the woods shooting. I think it'd be neat to teach her survival skills. I think I 16 would be perfect for her. She's one of the most important people in my life and is deserving of a blade.

I know a few other people have chosen their dad (and Clich, but I'll get to him), but here's mine:

My mom was always kind of tough to deal with growing up and my dad was always the voice of reason that stood up for us and had my back (but wasn't slow to remind me if I really WAS being an idiot). He is always encouraging me to try and learn new things no matter how old I am (I just turned 25 and for my present he bought me a few months of Jiu Jitsu lessons!) He has taken me to so many football games and car races I can't remember how many, he has coached my soccer teams, he taught me basic web design so I could make some side money doing websites and a little bit of graphic design that helped me move up to managing/social media coordinating at my job, he taught me how to enjoy distance running and train for my half marathon, he has taught me so much...except for one thing:

Outdoors/Knife Skills

My dad grew up in a ghetto in LA because his dad ran out on him, my grandma, and my aunt when my dad was little. He can tell you how to not get into a gang fight when walking through Compton and what it's like to be in a riot, but he never had anyone to take him camping really or show him how to make a fire. I have stumbled onto this passion/interest all on my own (always been interested in knives, since I was little) but it is kind of foreign to my dad. He took us camping a few times, but it was straight car camping with little to no outdoors skills involved. Well, I showed him my ESEE-4 and BK-9 a few months ago and his eyes lit up, he couldn't believe how sharp they were, how solid they felt. I took him in the backyard and showed him how I had learned to make feathersticks and baton and he thought it was wild, it feels really awesome to get to show HIM something for once, to share something with him that I know.

He has played with the idea of buying his own knife but sounded intimidated by picking one (even when I offered to help pick it out for him, he said he wouldn't know what criteria to even ask for for a recommendation) and I don't have the funds to flat out buy him one right now (still saving up for the knife I'm going to send out for my GAW at the moment), so I want him to have his very own BK-16. I think it's a great starter, not only Becker, but knife. You don't need to go hunting for an aftermarket sheath, the stock one rocks (IMO), it's not so big or recurved that he won't be able to figure out how to sharpen it himself (though I'm happy to do that for him) and it will show him that you can do a lot with a little bit of knife. I even have plans laid out for the first time I can go camping with him with both of our own Beckers haha.

If I do win, I hate to be a copycat but for my personal prize please send a BK-5 to Clich. Not saying this to increase MY odds of winning, but to increase his odds of getting his favorite knife back. He's a generous dude and deserves the same back (the guy was having a GAW because HE was having a hard week! Jeez!)

Thanks for the chance and good luck to everyone, I don't know about ya'll but whether I win or not I appreciated a reason to reflect on someone important in my life and why they have such a high spot in my heart.

(EDIT: I see a couple other people said they have already sent Clich a new 5 to replace his, then if it's to his liking I chose my prize to still go to him but make it the BK-17 he would like for his father that he put in his entry, I really feel okay with my collection right now and would rather it go to someone else still)

Here's my entry.

I would like to give a Becker knife to Clich.

Although I have only met him over the internet, He has actually impacted me more than one would think.

Clich has a had a very tough past 3-ish months. He's lost all but 5 of his blades, and he once had over 40 or so.

He lost his wife and custody of his son.

Now with alimony payments, it's gonna be pretty dang hard to get back up to par with all of those blades.

I really want Clich to have a BK-5. He loves that blade, and he's one heck of a dude. and he's stood strong through all of this.

We all kinda like you a little bit clich. Good luck in this insane thing called life.

MKK

I know. :D

But i really do want clich to have a brand new 5. That wasn't just to make the judges feel sorry for him.

I totally agree with you, which is what will make it hard to put my full heart into my own entry. Good luck to whoever receives such an awesome gift anyways (and the lucky SOB that entered them :))

Id give a Becker to my dad. he is the one that got me outdoors and loving nature. sad part is that around 16 I decided girls and parties were more important than hunting and camping and we grew apart. to the point where I didn't talk to him for almost two years. once I became a real man and learned what is really important in life, we began to reconnect and he has once again become my greatest influence. I was hoping to one day reward him for always being there, even when I wasn't there for myself or him, with a Becker that I customized for him for hunting and fishing. something that he could carry with pride. when the bk17 came out I knew which id give to him. but unfortunately my wife and I split and current circumstances don't allow for that yet. hopefully I can fulfill the vision I had for his knife. for me? I miss my bk5, something fierce, but I can do without. id rather give one to my dad than horde another piece of steel. thanks for the chance cap.

I'd give a becker bk3 to my dad. Why? Because he has tought me so much over the years and because his old job lost most of its buisness he had to switch back to the job he always had a passion for. Being a truck driver. Because of that I dont get to see him as often as I once did. He's home onec or twice every 2 days buy when he's home he is either sleeping of writing out bills and we dont spend too much time together anymore. Id get him the bk3 because he has a 5.11 knife (one of those small ones. Forgot what its called) similer to it that he uses for everything. Being that he cant have a gun in his truck I want to get hin a non cheapo knife that he could defend himself with if he ever had to while it haveing a utility pourpous which the 3 has. Im going to get him the knife anyway but not haveing a job its kindof hard to do that.
Thanks for the chance

Peyton and Grant Kirby.
These are two of the four Kirby children that have been part of my life for the past 7 years.
I refer to them as my other kids. There is always one or all of them in my home.
Today the Kirby family moved to South Africa to start a childrens village for aids orphans.
They have left a big hole in my life, for me and my family, they will be missed.
Peyton is 15 and Grant is 12. I think a pair of BK16's would be great knives for the adventure they are now on.

They recently learned to start a fire with a fire steel.

what a fine contest. mmm. i already give knives to people i like. tricky. will ponder.

I would like to give a knife to Jesus, because he died on the cross for my sins.
I think he would like a BK-2 because everyone says "Jesus!" the first time they hold one.

That is all

As soon as I saw the thread title in the main forum page, I was planning an entry pretty much exactly like this. Clich has contributed a ton to this board, and the thought of him without a beloved BK5 breaks my heart.

Well, I've been bouncing this idea around with Cam and K9 (a lil bit anyhow). The idea was to give my friend Jaz a BatK11 (she just about worships Batman) with a red bat duracoated onto either side of the blade of a BK11, and get some nice black and red G10 handles put on it. And include a Tek-Lok and custom kydex sheath with it.

The purpose? To get her interested in the outdoors and knife use as a tool, not a toy or weapon. If she learned some good bush craft skills and fire making techniques, she could probably make traps with the pros, skin what ever she catches, and then cook it.

Great contest Cap'n.

Very nice entry MKK.

Edit: Since I forgot to add what knife I would want, I want Clich to pick his knife of choice should I win. He needs it more than me, and I have more money just randomly drop on a knife if I really want one being that I don't live on my own yet.

Let me rephrase that, I want Clich to pick a knife and for it to be customized FOR HIM, to his specifications, he already sniffs enough bleach for all of us.

My oldest brother has stood by me my whole life, he's 13 years older so he had to be a ''dad'' or ''uncle'' a lot when I was growing up. But after I became an adult our relationship seamlessly switched back to Brothers. I went thru a lil rough patch last year and continuing thru this year. Long story short my wife and I separated and I wasn't too good in the head for many months.

My brother invited me into his home, and has been a steady comfort ever since. I spend my time at his house or at the farm....but here lately mostly here. His level head and calm temper has kept me from a LOT of bad choices/paths in my 30 years. He isn't a huge knife person, he has a few that he uses during deer season and a few folders he carries, LOL I think 50% of his blades came from me.

That being said, he has seen and played with every becker I have brought in, and while he likes them OK he hasn't shown any interest in owning one really, he kinda likes the machax but after using mine he realized it wasn't something he would use more then once a year.

That all changed when I got my 5 and 15 in....he LOVES these blades, I have caught him window-shopping on the internet for them a few times since. The 15 is a perfect knife for him, he is the designated butcher of all the deer his family kills, and the 15 is perfect for that.

He is a natural teacher and giver...he went to college to be a businessman but found his love was teaching/helping others. He teaches business classes at the local college now, and it pleases me to see him find his ''soul-career''. He is a doting father to my 3 nephews and niece...and unlike me, is a gentle loving man.

If I win this contest, I would love for him to get a 15 of his own...and as for ''my'' knife, *I guess Clichasaurus got a 5* so I reckon I would like a BK14, and I'll give it to my oldest nephew. He has been eyeballing my 14s something fierce.

Thanks for the GAW Cap'n...this is the best one I have seen.

Awesome GAW. I'd love to enter this one, but I have to say, I stand with MKK, and if I were to win this one, I'd want a 5 to go to clich, and heck, the other blade could go to his dad. I think the best thing about this forum is the overall camaraderie, and generosity. It's utterly contagious, and clich has really helped foster that spirit. With his present difficulties, and the overall lack of 5 in his collection, I'd like to see him get another one. Not to mention, most of the people around here who I'd like to get into knives, I have been doing so by making them a custom knife based on what they want. And my wife would be a little unhappy if I added another piece of steel to my own collection, considering how ridiculous it's gotten over the last year.

So since MKK already put clich in the ring, I'd like to second that notion, if that's allowed.

Also, thanks for your generosity. Best contest I've seen in a while, and really one truly in the spirit of what I believe makes this forum so great. Hats off to you.

I'll third

Never met you brother, but you're a staple here.

My dad passed away 2 years ago, and if I could give one to someone it would be him. He never had two nickles to rub together,
but give you the shirt off his back (literally) Maybe he's watching. Hope your dad get's to enjoy a new knife with you.
