Who would you pick and why???

I don't truly hate any climate, don't like the heat and would take cold over it.
Arctic/ Boreal forest, Mors Kochanski or Lars Falt
Jungle, Mel Deweese
Desert, Tony Nester or Cody Lundin
Overall, Pete Kummerfeldt
Open water, I'll get back to you...

Ray Mears for the Artic boreal forest.Jeff Randall for any Jungle. I chose men who I believe think like I do and I could learn alot from and thrive in a survival situation.

Rock6 brings up an interesting point. If the answer isn't confined to people who are still alive (this isn't really going to happen right?), then I'd definitely change to a figure from the past. It be fun to learn from Nessmuk.

But my all time top choice would be Jedidiah Smith.

i've been watch ray mears' dvd series and i really enjoy his personality...i think he would be a great companion, especially to learn from. I would probably consider les stroud, just because i've seen how good of shape he's really in and he definitely would be able to pull his own weight. If i could pull some people out of history, ray mears presented some amazing explorers from the past...

If it was less serious, i really wouldn't mind hanging out with bear grylls...that would be entertaining and even though he does a lot of those "hey guys, watch this" type stuff, he really does seem to be a decent guy who earns a paycheck doing what most of us would love to be doing (minus the stupid stunts and eating elephant dung:barf:).

Rock6

another great answer!!!:)

In the tropics, my pick would be Jessica Alba. Ray Mears in a bikini just wouldn't work for me. In cold climates, my pick would be Mr Mears.

Either somebody extremely rich, because the search effort for us would be much larger, or Jessica Alba, because, well........ ya' know...

Ray Mears. The environment I would least like to be in is tropical rainforest.

I remember seeing a program that Ray did with Ewan McGregor in the Honduran rainforests. I think Ray would be a very patient teacher.

i wud just pick my wife...that way i wudnt even set foot out of the door and still get to tell about it...

I wouldn't get a survival "expert" - I would want an experienced local of whatever indigenous people live in that area. If it was the arctic, I'd want a local Inuit guide, and if I were stranded in Australia, I'd want a local Aborigine, etc. No expert, no matter how many books he's written or people he's trained, will know as much about the terrain and how to conquer it than someone with multiple generations of actually surviving in that locale, not just visiting it.

The two areas I have the least amount of experience in (read as practically none) are northern extreme cold and the deserts. In the North I think I would want Allan Beauchamp along, and in the American deserts probably Cody Lundin.

A couple of old friends I've got alot of miles with. Companionship to me is more important than survival elitism, if I can't stand the person I'm with in a survival situation, I'd rather take my chances on my own.I know they aren't tenderfeet and have good work ethics, that they're trustworthy and won't be stealing gear or food. They've sacrificed much for me in the past and I have no doubts they'd be willing to risk their own lives for me still. I know they have the will to do anything necessary to survive, and to me that's the most important part, not having the best bugout bag with the most ESEE morale patches and designer fire rods.

My first thought is Lofty Wiseman. I simply think he has the experience to get through just about anything. I'd love to learn from him.

Les Stroud, he made snow shoes out of car seats, enough said. Plus he always makes me laugh.

I agree with what MustardMan said but if had to be a recognized survival expert I would say Tom Brown Jr. It would be an experience of a life time.
