Who would you want to apprentice with and why?

Apprentice may be a strong word. How about if you could spend a day with any of the knifemakers, who would it be and why?

Aside from Jay Fisher, I would nominate Bruce Bump. The intricacy and creativity Bruce puts into a knife is amazing. Not to take away from any of the other craftsmen here, but he's on of my personal favorites.

I was thinking Bump too, just because his work is so interesting and well designed and he is so approachable.

Other regulars here: Cashen, Caffrey, Goo, among others because they know things and can do different things that I respect and I would like to absorb some of it.

I think an afternoon with Fowler or Goddard would be very interesting.

Loveless too (yes, his is actually still working some).

I'd also value a day with Dozier or Reeve.

I would love to spend a day with anyone that could teach me anything!!

I am always looking for knowledge and there is no better way to learn than in person.

I would bring the bait for the fish and .22 shells for the squirrels to spend time in Don Hanson's shop.

"For a day" I'd take any knifemaker. I can't spend a day in a shop and not learn SOMETHING.

Now, if we're talking about a real apprenticeship...I'd have to say Kevin Cashen, Bruce Bump, Tim Zowada, Bailey Bradshaw, and Ken Steigerwalt would all be super choices. Each for a separate reason which is why I had to list them all...

I'm lucky enough to spend time with MS Wally Hayes, though its not a true apprenticeship. He has taught me so much.

Cashen, Goo, Lively, Winkler... are among the many I wouldn't mind shadowing for a day (or year... Ha!)

Like Deker, I would love to hang with most makers that frequent these boards.

No brainer. I'd apprentice with Aldo Bruno, so I could make some money "under the table" (sink?) as a plumber.:)

i would love to spend a day at trackers forge- i love his style and designs-they have an appeal to me-ofcourse the above mentioned would be great to. I also want to check out stephen Fowler hes designs and makes some really great stuff--thanks--marekz

another person i would like is bladsmith but he scares me. I think if i would ask too many stupid question he would katana me to death--lol--seriously though even though hes my dad - he intimidates me--marekz

Heh, I learn something every day. I didn't know Stacy was your Pop. That's cool. You have a leg up on the rest of us noobs that are fumbling around in the dark (even though you run the risk of being "katana-ed" to death).:D

I got the good fortune of spending a couple of hours a day for 3 days with Bill Tuch , I plan on making it back up there in the next 3-6 months to spend a couple full days with him.

I am hoping to take Uncle Kit up on his open offer to visit him in Kentucky , as well as make it to visit Tom Krein.

Another thing I can hopefully fulfill in 2011 is make it to a hammer in to start a study on forging.

ditto...

Ohh a tough one. I think I would like to work under Don Fogg for awhile, I would apprentice to Kevin but you wouldn't learn anything about blades, just Venture Bros. trivia (which woulodn't be a bad thing :D)
