Who would you want to apprentice with and why?

Jerry Mcclure (I get to hang out in his shop)
Frank Niro (he's emailed me a ton of tips and talked to him on the phone a time or two)
T.A. Davison (talked to him a time or two and picked up big pointers for my slip joints)
Bruce Bump (talked to him via pm a time or two as well)

Ed Caffrey, Tai Goo, Phillip Patton, Dave Kelly, Matt Bailey, & Andy Roy for knives

L.C. Hanson, Joe Szilaski, & Stuart Willis for Hawks

Jason

The up comming hammerin with Tia Goo and Raymond Richards would be a treat.
Reg Ellery would be my long term pick.
Cheers Ron.

Jim Crowell would be my choice as he is a friend of my friend in ark. As crazy as it sounds I saw his knives and knew right away he is a mastersmith. Jim has sent me a few emails and was willing to help me long before anyone . I later found out he was teaching knife making at one of the colleges in ark . For anyone that lives down that way dont miss out on his classes. kellyw

There are many here whos work and personalities I admire greatly but, I would love to spend some time learning from Johan Gustofson. His damascus patterns and colors floor me.

I'd love to spend some time with Bruce Bump and Ray Richard. Bruce seems like one of the nicest guys around; he makes some incredible (and complicated) stuff and has a good time doing it. Ray has this incredible talent for creating knives with clean yet organic lines. I just love the shapes that he comes up with... they just seem "right".

And I'd really like to spend some more time with Nick Wheeler. I learned more from him in one day than I learned the entire rest of this last year. Definitely worth the long drive.

Mike, I doubt we would get much knife work done but it would be a great time :D

My choice would be Tony Bose, the slipjoint king :cool :

Don,

My choice also. -

We should hit him at the same time? You know the two heads better than one thing?
You would have question I may not think of and vice verse. :D:thumbup:

I've talked to Tony several times and the knowledge that he has about knives let alone making them is unreal.
Your right he is the Slip Joint King.
And you know what the cool part his? He would share all he could with us......:D:cool::thumbup:

Thanks! ya for the mention, I appreciate it.

Todd

I'm glad to see I'm not the only Jim Crowell fan here. Jim is a great guy and one of my personal heroes. In 2003 Jim squeezed me into his hectic schedule and made a blade for me for my first deployment to Iraq. Since that time I have had the opportunity to visit his shop several times and spend the day talking about knives, guns, world affairs, and eating his lovely wife Jen's amazing cooking. Jim will probably always be my favorite knifesmith.

Like many of you, I'm a big fan of Bruce Bump and Don Fogg as well. Both are amazing crafstmen.

I would spend a day with JIM CROWELL he is the teacher of many masters including me and has more secrets to reveal.

Oh....I forgot a few! Steve Schwartzer, Darryl Meier, Steve Dunn, Jim Hrisoulas, Joe Szilaski, and Burt Foster...

I think I need 9 lives to get this all in :D

Kevin Cashen, because he's a cool guy, and makes awesome swords.

Thanks, Jason, for the mention. I'm flattered.

I'd also like to see Don Hanson forge a blade completely on his power hammer. I've tried that a few times and it never went well.

There is a maker in Venus Italy... by the name of Stefano Trentini. I befriended him on another site. This guy pumps out some amazing work in a shop smaller than most folk's bathroom. He has pictures of himself touching the walls with outstretched arms. I'd love to see how he does it.... plus I'd love to go back to Venus, again.
