Who'da thunk it (about WWII's)

Well, I have to confess that for the longest time I found the WWII models of khukuris to be, well, less than physically attractive to me. So, I never ordered one.

My brother-in-law, who I turned on to this place by the way :D - bought a WWII and I had to admit that I found it intriguing.

I finally stumbled onto an 18" WWII by Bura and snagged it up. And was astonished at how strongly I became an instant fan the moment I hefted it.

And then all of a sudden a Kumar 16.5" WWII cruised over the horizon and I snapped it up too, and now I can't decide which of the two WWII's I like best.

Right now my favorite Khukuri is an 18" Gelbu Special by Kumar, and I think maybe that Kumar WWII might be trying for an upset.

Well, now I too am a believer - WWII's really rock!

Why? (as opposed to almost any other model)

I really need to pick up an HI WWII. I have one of GH's, and it is barely discernable from the service model. I like the extra 'meat on the belly' of the HI versions.

*sigh* So many khukuris~so many taxes due. :grumpy: :(

the balance point on a WWII is about 3" further back this doesn't sound like much but

think of doing slow figure eights with a baseball bat while holding the very end , then choking up 6 or 7"s and doing the same . the closer you hand is to the fulcrum the faster you can move the ends

with that balance point 3 inches closer you can do blindingly fast feints , redirects sweeps and traps

true you can do all those with a AK or something bigger but all that mass moving is hard to control

3" further back than what?

Thanks.

I love the WWIIs. My kumar 18" is one of my fav blades. It chops well, slices well, and isn't so heavy it pulls your pants down. I'd have to say that is indeed a "goto" khuk when you know you're going to need a longer one.

when your belt rides under your gut and over your ass like mine does even a 25"-30" AK isn't gonna pull your pants down.:p
Might make you walk sideways though. ;) :D

That really tickled my funny bone! Man that's funny!!

DT - I have an 18" WWII by Shankar...sharpened it at the Khon, chopped through a 4" log, then simply wiped it off, did a series of paper strips, then a free fall paper chop, then the free hanging manila rope cut. Passed all without a hitch. I like the way it feels but didn't give it much thought as to why but decided a while back to get one of Terry Sisco's quick draw rigs for this one. Sounds like the blade did indeed tell me it's intended use!

Seems like most preffer the 18" WW2's to the 16.5" WW2's that I like. Wonder if me being 5'4" has something to do with that.

Maybe hit Reno tomorrow to refill meds, and double check that Stevens 30-30 they had for $175 ( equivalent of the Savage 340 ). Or if I find one in 223. Make a good truck gun,

How many 'good truck guns' do you have, Rusty? Do you have a fleet of trucks?

I'm glad people find the WWll as neat as I do.

18" WWII's are my favorite as an all around Khukuri. I still like the Durba's best, but it doesn't matter; they are all good.

Anyone have a BGRS -and- a WW II?

My favorite all around khuk is my BGRS and I'm wondering how it compares to the WW II?

At least I'm covered tomorrow. I'll be on the road to Reno and back til about 10 at night. No time to visit UB. Thank God.

I've become a convert to the 16.5" WWII school of thinking too. I think it's just a matter of getting your hands on the right one.

is an 18" WWII, in wood, by Kumar. If I had to grab one blade and head for the hills that would be it.

Well if no one has a BGRS and a WW II, how about an 18" AK and a WW II and how do they compare?
