In theory, each new frame will have the first 250 specimens to come thru marked PPP. Not each new variation, but each new frame. But as Bob says, refer to #306. But I will say that since Tidioute's are nearly always ran first; a Northfield PPP is somewhat of an anomaly.
As for prototypes themselves; there is a market for them and the premium has come down somewhat. But, I don't think anybody is naive enough to think they are getting the first one finished by the last guy on the assembly line. It is plucked out of the middle of the tray. The exception are a number I have seen, that can be counted on one hand, that were never actually made in production. Even then, being a pessimist, I presume were short runs just marked that way because the previous co-owner had a steady market for prototypes.
