Hate it when stuff like this happens. I was finishing up my wrap with my *sheathed* BK14 and learned about improper ways to hold the sheath. Gave the knot one last tug to tighten it up and managed to yank the blade out and across a fairly delicate portion of my thumb.

Doc said I missed the tendon and he *thinks* I might be ok on nerve damage. May have to follow up on that though. :(

Anyway, this blade has tasted blood. And now for the gushy bits...

Immediately post stitching...

Ouch, yeah man that suck I still have nerve damage in the tip of my thumb from a cut like 4 months ago.

Owowowowow the pain...

My EsKabar has bitten me twice already. This thing hurts.

Get well soon!

Bummer, that little sucker was thirsty for blood! Now I know why they said to tape the blade edge when tying on the paracord.

Hope you at least got the cord to where you wanted it :)

I've seen more bites from folks wrapping their neckers. sorry man, but thanks for the pics. I loves me some gore!

it inherits this from the izula. untold amounts of people have been cut wrapping their knives. welcome to the club ;)

I don't know why the Izula / BK14 style handle results in so many self inflicted cuts...

Anyone else notice this? Don't seem to see the same number of BK11 or other cord wrap knife related slicings...

The wrap actually looks pretty good now but this reinforces in my mind that I really don't like lanyards on handles. That's the bit that caused the bite (well that and my failure to think ahead). Once my paw heals a bit, I'll be redoing the wrap in coyote paracord, I think.

OUCH......They lie, hiding, in the bushes waiting for the slightest chance to pounce.....I HATE it when I let a blade ambush me like that.....

Thank you for sharing the way that the pain came your way......I never would have seen that one coming either.......Hopefully your post will warn others......

I really hope you heal quickly and with no lasting damage.....I personally like to have a wee scar left to remind me that the objects of my obsession can, indeed, bite me if I let them.....

Heal fast....

All Best....

That is a good one. Now that the knife has given you a love mark, time to give one back. Kiss and make up and have fun.

I finally started taping the blade because I saw it on Equip2Endure. I was like, come on, I'm not going to slip... boom, slipped. Now I tape it...

wow man sorry to hear that:mad: its always on the end of the wrap, we all feel we are extra careful around knives etc, etc, then you read a post like this.. tape, tape, and more tape. !!!

I STILL have issues with my RH ring finger from last March 21st, where I poked a tendon, no blood, no pain.. UNTIL the next day, eventually my finger started to curl up......

nothing could be done without surgery, but thank God it has slowly (1yr) started to mend.. still no perfect as I feel the tendon move from time to time but at least now I lay my hand on a table with all my fingers laying flat without pain.

sounds to me like you have one EXPENSIVE BK14 there..

Good Luck..

Back in my chef days I knocked an 8 stitch hole in my left thumb. Took a good 2 years for the tendon to stop 'popping' around the scar tissue. Now, over 10 years later, I just have a little dead spot where I don't really feel things on that thumb, but it works fine.

The professional kitchen will alter your hands permanently. That said, I will take a cut over a burn any day.

Thanks sir. As someone suggested, I'm planning to work that BK14 extra hard to make sure it knows who is boss. :D
