Who's drivin' around with an expired inspection sticker on their car right now?

I would be if I wasn't selling my car for shop equipment! and I'm pretty sure the sticker on it says something about 12-04....

I drove around for a year without any regristraiton sticker on my plate. I had it but forgot to put it on and didn't realize it till I went to put on the next year's sticker.

Here in Missouri, we cleverly apply the sticker to the licence plate itself. annually, we are told, some 15-18,000 of these are stolen in the St. Louis area alone.
This means about that many unregistered, uninspected cars on the road at any particular time.
We understand that these stickers go for about 20.00 each on the street.

Some folks have suggested that perhaps the sticker be applied to the windshield, where stealing it would be problematic, at best. So far, no movement from the legislature.

When I lived in Arkansas I kept my cars registered at my parents' house in Illinois. I didn't own a home or have a steady residence in Ark, plus their insurance rates were sky-high. And while living in Ark I bought a car there. It was covered by insurance immediately, but it too about three months before I could get a chance to take it to Illinois for registration. So I drove it around with no plates at all, just the sales sticker on the window, for those three months with no problems at all. Then took it to Illinois, registered it, and got a temp sticker. The first week I had the car in Arkansas I got hassled by the cops!

So it was OK to have an unregistered car, but was an easy target with the out-of-state temp sticker...

Arkansas also had a property tax on vehicles while I lived there. I think for most people the tax amount was the same as other states' registration fees. They also had a safety inspection.

I think a long time ago Illinois also had a property tax on vehicles. But it was against the state's constitution so they had to stop.

I haven't had an inspection sticker since 1978. Haaaaaaaa. Haven't needed one cause I lived in Tennessee and then moved to Florida. Neither of which require the bs stickers! :D

We don' need no stinkin' 'spection stickers. :D Florida tried that crap a long time back, but gave up on it about 20-25 years ago maybe. I used to take our vehicles over into the next county (it was a REALLY RURAL county whose main industry was timber) and run them through the "inspection station" where all the log trucks got inspected. They would have passed a crippled pig I think.

Personal property must be paid to get the registration sticker, here in Missouri.

Mine was due in December, but I haven't paid the property tax on my vehicles (has gone from $350 to about $400 with late fees), so I'm waiting 'til I can scrape the cash together for the taxes, then the $15 inspection, and $30 (including $5 late) registration fees.

As mwerner says, they'll take your stickers off your plates, so I just score them with a razor blade, which makes removal a pain for any potential thieves. Once, they just took the plates off of our car, and they were found a few days later on a stolen van.

Anyway, my car was due for registration in January.
