Who's going back to more traditional style folders?

Since 9/11 sheeple are more afraid of knives than ever, tactical folders that look like they could kill you without even being opened are the norm, but the sheeple still shake in their little world of goverment santioned security.

I still carry tacticals and larger custom SD knives but I tend to use more sheeple friendly knives out in the open, (I still cut my steak at home with my BM AFCK).

I've been buying used, quality older pre 80s and pre 70s knives, Queens, LF&Cs basically anything old US made and traditional patterns.

Lately I've been picking up the older Gerber Silver Knight Lockbacks, these were some of the first quality folders made in Japan.

Anyone else going back to basics?

I admit I recently have been carring a small Buck 110 look-a-like for routine cutting task in public, because it is more sheeple friendly.

My benchmade Ambush draws a little to much interest to use openly.

My Victorinox alox Settler is my constant companion. I've always liked a two blade slip joint for daily use. Now if only more "traditional" folders could match Victorinox in fit, finish, and overall quality.

For the most part I have gone to carrying my Buck 110. I also carry one of a few slipjoints that I have. The other folder I carry at times is my Spyderco Police.

I don't carry based on what sheeple think. I am, however, careful about not making a display of snapping open my knife.

I find most women aren't all that concerned about the size of a knife. I think that comes from the size of the knives often used in the kitchen. Heck, a number of fixed blade kitchen knives are larger than our "large", fixed blade "man killers".

trapper, sodbuster, 110, laguiole, SAK, congress. I started taking a liking to neck knives. Not traditional, I know, but very handy and very reliable. An Arclite on my keychain seems to be small enough to not freak people out and the Prairie Fox is small enough that I don't think anyone has even noticed it. I work at a school and find that a 3" blade is plenty for my day to day stuff.

I have started to carry my Spyderco Mouse lately. I have been extremely interested in the Bark River Knife and Tool's first slipjoint project. I have been interested in slipjoints recently, but I believe that it is simply a change in my tastes.

My griptilian was just too much for the sheep where I work so I use a Buck 503t for cutting things around the office. Gave me an excuse to buy another Buck.

I always carry a slipjoint for use around sheeple. Usually a Victorinox but the other day I picked up a Schrade Cigar box stockman and I am very impressed with its level of fit. I'm with Paul about modern traditionals and how they can't stack up to a $20 Victorinox in the fit department.
If I carry a one hander to work I usually just stick it in my desk and use the slipjoint if I need to cut something.

I love Slipjoints, I just bought an SAK yesterday, on sale at Lowe's no less..Although I have a hard time carrying only a slipjoint..having grown up in the era of tac folders.

Timely post Dijos. I've noticed myself carrying my SAK solder almost everywhere now. Having started to live a more urban life after 4 years in the bush I've noticed myself starting to mind my manners in all sorts of ways, including what I whip out in public. The soldier is a solid little knife, big enought to do most things and fairly friendly looking. I felt naked the first time I left my beloved Millie at home but I am used to this now.

I've always made it a habit to carry a smaller knife with me and the traditional slipjoint is often my favorite choice. Right know I carry a T. Bose/Case Dogleg jack in stag. This is as good a cutting knife as I've ever had. Also carry a large wood inlaid sebenza in my right front but more often than not the jack is used more.

Hartkopf in Solingen / Germany produces traditional folders the way they were produced since hundred years.

I am with Ming65, I carry a SAK soldier or farmer everyday. The aluminum handled SAK are very sturdy and priced right. The extra tools come in very handy. I gave one to my dad who is a contractor, his Buck stockmans always had the tips broken from prying with them. Has not broken the blade on the SAK because he has a screwdriver. Great little knives. Very sheeple friendly, everyone likes SAK.

Are Extrema Ratios, Benchmades, and Spydercos old-fashioned? I'm always carrying a stainless SAK-style folder and a Meerkat or Griptillian which are supplemented with knives from the above-mentioned manufacturers.

Nothing says old-timey like a Benchmade 921, Spyderco ATR, or Extrema Ratio Nemesis.

I like the 'look and feel' of traditional folders and have recently started carrying my old Schrade Minuteman and am looking at getting a Sodbuster. It has nothing to do with not scaring people. When I do carry my Delica, I don't open it intentionally slow and open it one-handed.

I've never made a big "show" out of airing out my blade - no matter what kind of a knife it is.

But over the last year I have definitely headed in a new direction - quality slipjoints and lockbacks. Just love the workmanship and attention to detail. I guess it's just a natural progression for an anal-retentive like me as a result of all the amazing stuff I have learned in these forums.

It has nothing to do with what others think, I carry a slipjoint because it suits my needs fine, it also has to do with what I am used to, having carried since 1960.

I have some modern folders and can see their advantages; locking, one handed operation, large, flat, black and with a clip, I even want to buy a few more. But a small stockman in the pocket seems more comfortable, nice and convenient for my everyday use.

I picked up a Queen Bone "stag" large stockman with D2 steel for Christmas. However, I've been trying to carry just a little SAK around with me as they are very non-threatening since so many people carry them, and it's not something I'd mind loaning to someone to use, even if they screw it up. I'd be upset if someone screwed up my $50 Queen. :) I also sometimes carry my Spydeco Cricket as it's quicker to deploy and not very threatening. The BM710 is usually there with me too, but doesn't get pulled out infront of sheeple normally.

folders now?
I'm into customs for my latest kick... got 4 of em in january alone... warncliff fixed, twin drop point fixed, and a modified skean dhu...

I carry a folder on me 24/7 as neck carry, or I'd never have a folder during the week.
