Hey Normark,

Let me know if you need more. I'll be happy to get them and send them your way to help out the Scout Troops.

Well, I was going to say I can send you 2, but it looks like your covered. Let me know if you come up short.

Hey I'm new here on the forum, but couldn't help noticing you're in Ontario. I'm in Montreal and the Pharmaprix here sells regular and cinnamon Altoids. Might be that they all do that so check your local branch too. Pharmacies are a great place for finding random useful PSK bits anyway :)

Welcome to the forum Sound Idea.

To take this thread in a slightly different direction, what does everyone use Altoids tins for? I sometimes carry PJ cotton balls in them, but lately I have been using film canisters.

The main thing I use my altoids tins for is to make portable knife sharpeners. Basically, I glue a piece of mouse pad to the lid and then have different grit sandpaper (220,400,600,800,1500) inside the tin that I can attach to the top and touch up a knife in the field. I also keep a BSA Hotspark and a Victorinox Classic SD inside the tin, since you can never have too many of either of those. I have one kit in my car survival kit, one in my PSK and one that I keep in my external frame backpack that I use for backpacking. Very handy little kit, I just wish I could take credit for coming up with it.

Pray tell, AustinTX, how do you attach the sandpaper to the mousepad on the lid of the tin? Some kind of velcro, so that you can swap out the various grits? I'd like to know, as I'm interested in this idea. Thanks.

The sandpaper is held on by wings on three sides. When you attach it, you fold the wings under the lid of the tin and then close it. It holds the sandpaper on there nicely. The mouse pad is held on with gorilla glue (great stuff but be real careful with it, it expands four or five times as much as you think it will. Can get very messy.) The sandpaper stacks up nicely inside the tin and the hotspark, thermometer and knife fit in nicely as well.

I just remembered where I got the idea from. It came from a poster named Vitreum that posts on another knife forum. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due.
