whos kukri is better??

I don't own any khukuris myself, but my best friend is a big fan and I have used his a lot. He started with the Ontario several years back. The edge came very sharp but thin, suitable only for soft woods. The kraton handle offered a decent grip, but it didn't fit my hand well. IMHO the Ontario is best suited for brush clearing; basically machete work. The blade is only 3/16" so it won't be as tiring as a thicker blade, but it can chop in a pinch if needed.

Since then he bought a 15" AK, 20" Sirupati, and 17" M43 from HI. We both like the AK best for chopping. It has the right size, mass, and convex edge for all kinds of wood. The Sirupati we reserve for brush, but it is heavier than a machete so we don't know how long we can swing it around. The M43 will outchop the AK, but the balance is so far forward and the blade heavier that it's clumsier to use than the AK. Personally, I would make it a little thinner or add double fullers at the front of the blade. I think it's the best-looking khukri, though :) .

The only HI I have handled has been in a passaround. Never owned one. They are definatly great knives, don't get me wrong. But I prefer Gurkha Khukuris simply b/c they are well made and the price is right.
