Well, in some places the snow is 12 ft deep, in others it's only about 4 feet deep. Depends on where you are in the village. It's actually a pretty warm day, it's only about 15F degrees below zero but there is a pretty chilly wind that actually makes it feel quite colder.
By the way, I'm the new kid here. I'm a teacher living on the coast of the Bering Sea in Alaska.

It's raining here in Southeastern Mass. Thankfully. We've had TONS of snow so far this year. Our annual average is 34". We hit that this AM. And it's still only January. Ick. We had about 12-16" on the ground - even after meltage - from the last 4 storms. I'm tired of it by now. Skinnier roadways. Salt everywhere. Ick.
THankfully the upcoming week looks pretty tame too. Warmer temps. No arctic air. No snow in the forecast. WOOHOO!!!
10"-12" of snow here in Central Indiana...causing lots of problems. This is the most snow we've had here in a couple years.
How is it where you are??

We are "snowed in" with a bunch of Steeler and Cardinals fans here in Tampa. The Super Bowl crowd has hit the town and traffic has picked up considerably. I have seen some hot cars lately too, a Ferrari Enzo and I was passed by a Lamborghini. Many Limos also.
I'm in Kotlik which is on the far North end of the Yukon Delta. We're 125 miles Southeast of Nome. This is my last year teaching here, I'm going to try to come to the Mat-Su area somewhere. I'm a Chugiak boy originally, juts off N. Birchwood Loop.Welcome Bro!!! What Vill ya in?
How does the salt work?
Ian.
It lowers the freezing point of water but only after traffic turns the chunks of it to brine. It's only effective to about -5 F.
Here is an interesting read about it > http://www.saltinstitute.org/Uses-benefits/Winter-road-safety/How-does-road-salt-work
Usually by about the end of January, you can snack on a salted tomato while commuting. Just roll the window down and rub the tomato on the outside doorskin. :barf:
