Cold, but no new snow for a while.

In the winter storm during the Christmas break and newyears, we had 60+ inches of snow here in eastern Washington. It was pretty gnarly.

Welcome Alaskanativeson,,,,,,, always room 4 one more,,,,,, we got 6 inches on top of the snow an ice we already had,,,,and it's been raining for the last 2 hours,,,,,gonna freeze up real nice when the sun drops. Like Dennis said , YUCK ICK,,,, my honest language an portrayal of our weather would probably get me an infraction,,,, this being a PG type forum,,,,,lol

Indy here, checking in. Took me a couple hours of digging the drive way out and now I am at work and just finished digging the side walks here before the plow comes tonight.
I thought I was doing good to go out for a late night shovel last night at midnight, but I could hardly tell it made a difference in the morning.

Well, in some places the snow is 12 ft deep, in others it's only about 4 feet deep. Depends on where you are in the village. It's actually a pretty warm day, it's only about 15F degrees below zero but there is a pretty chilly wind that actually makes it feel quite colder.

By the way, I'm the new kid here. I'm a teacher living on the coast of the Bering Sea in Alaska.

What a great welcome home, huh ?? Glad to have ya back home safe & sound!

We had an ice & snow storm here in Tulsa. Doesn't take a whole lot to snow us in here, but the ice was the real problem Monday.

Had a little ice this morning in D/FW, 500+ accidents in FtWorth, 100+ in Dallas County - we don't know how to drive in this, so *I* stayed home...

I can work from the house, so no problem, but man, what a PITA! :)

The problem here is our attitude - God put here, God has to take it away! :)

We have clear patches that makes people forget the next icy patch is coming up, so they slam on their brakes just before each bridge 'just in case'... So they get rear-ended, or slide off and over, or something in-between... It's a freakin' zoo!

And, WELCOME HOME FLATLANDER! Thank you for your service!

It's raining here in Southeastern Mass. Thankfully. We've had TONS of snow so far this year. Our annual average is 34". We hit that this AM. And it's still only January. Ick. We had about 12-16" on the ground - even after meltage - from the last 4 storms. I'm tired of it by now. Skinnier roadways. Salt everywhere. Ick.

THankfully the upcoming week looks pretty tame too. Warmer temps. No arctic air. No snow in the forecast. WOOHOO!!!

How does the salt work?

Just on a brighter note its 93.3 degrees here today, I love these cooler days. :D
Ian.

I had to shovel about 14" of Global Warming off my driveway today before I could go to work. Took me about 1.5 hours. Then, the drive that normally takes 35 minutes, took another 1.5 hours. Needless to say, I was a little late.

10"-12" of snow here in Central Indiana...causing lots of problems. This is the most snow we've had here in a couple years.

How is it where you are??

Stay Safe & Warm:thumbup:

yeah, Jersey has been getting it this year, also. We got hit today, 5 - 6 inches of snow, and started to sleet after it. Just starting to settle down.

I'm in southern Indiana, just across from Louisville, KY. The main problem here was freezing rain (although it snowed on top of that). Ice weighed down tree branches so that many large limbs snapped. The damage here is nearly as bad as when Ike's winds rolled through, but the work conditions for repairs are much tougher. Lots of people are without power; mine was only out for about 6 hours, but many are facing no power for several days in freezing weather.

Looks like lots of schools will be closed here again tomorrow. We just can't handle snow like we used to!

We are "snowed in" with a bunch of Steeler and Cardinals fans here in Tampa. The Super Bowl crowd has hit the town and traffic has picked up considerably. I have seen some hot cars lately too, a Ferrari Enzo and I was passed by a Lamborghini. Many Limos also.

What a rough place to be "snowed in"

Welcome Bro!!! What Vill ya in?
I'm in Kotlik which is on the far North end of the Yukon Delta. We're 125 miles Southeast of Nome. This is my last year teaching here, I'm going to try to come to the Mat-Su area somewhere. I'm a Chugiak boy originally, juts off N. Birchwood Loop.

And by the way, it's not the cold, it's the wind. (That's our counterpart saying to Arizona's "But it's a dry heat...")

It lowers the freezing point of water but only after traffic turns the chunks of it to brine. It's only effective to about -5 F.
Here is an interesting read about it > http://www.saltinstitute.org/Uses-benefits/Winter-road-safety/How-does-road-salt-work

Usually by about the end of January, you can snack on a salted tomato while commuting. Just roll the window down and rub the tomato on the outside doorskin. :barf:

Thanks for that, that was very interesting.

The salt washing up under the vehicles would also help rust them out
