As a person from up North... it's funny to see a Santa Claus decoration and people wearing shortsView attachment 978887 Im in. Thank you for the chance. Attached is a picture of my dad and me. ( sorry its a little blurry this is the only picture of the two of us I have on my phone) My dad has taught me most of what I know in regards to working with my hands. He is also the reason for my passion in pocket knives ( he always carries a small Buck stockman) and fishing. Hes now retired and spends most of his time in the garage, doing what he loves best piddling. Lol
I remember riding a bicycle on Christmas Day in 75 degree weather. In fact, have had many warm Christmases! Wish it would snow for just a few days around Christmas. As a person from up North... it's funny to see a Santa Claus decoration and people wearing shorts![]()

Well I don't mind that the GAW ended, I will share about my Dad. First of all... congrats to the winners and great GAWglennbad
My Dad passed away at age 69 around Christmas time in 2010 of esophageal cancer; I think he would still be with us if he hadn't been so stubborn about seeing a doctor. A simple upper endoscopy and some over the counter Prilosec may have done the trick. So those of you that read this with chronic heartburn or acid reflux, get an endoscopy and take some Prilosec or at least ranitidine, it's a small price to pay to keep acid reflux from killing you. Your family will appreciate itAnyway, the internet is not big enough for me to explain in words everything that my Dad did for me and for all of those around him. It's funny that this thread bumped up when it did because last night I was looking through some of my pictures and came across this one from 1984, a clipping from the local newspaper.

This is me when I was 10. My grade school was closing down and we were being sent to a larger school 20 miles from home. They were having an open house to give the parents & students a chance to tour the school and meet the staff. The guy's hand that I am shaking was the Superintendent at the time, every 10 year old kids nightmare. What struck me when I was looking at this picture last night was my Dad's hand in the small of my back nudging me forward as if telling me... "Don't worry Son, you can do this..." I realized seeing this that the greatest thing my Dad ever did for me was to give me confidence to take on life and don't be afraid of it. To this day I can still feel his hand in the small of my back... nudging me on and saying "Don't worry Son, you can do this..."Thanks Dad... we love you and miss you

I enjoyed reading the posts in this thread and look forward to seeing the WIP pictures.Once you choose the knives, then we'll get to work on what to do with them. I'll probably post some WIP pics if the winners don't mind, so we can share the progress of each project.
