Who's your Daddy GAW (Part 2) *Winners announced*

Thanks for a generous and interesting giveaway; and thanks for the opportunity to share a little bit about my dad. Congrats to the 4 lucky winners. I’m looking forward to seeing the work in progress pictures.

View attachment 978887 Im in. Thank you for the chance. Attached is a picture of my dad and me. ( sorry its a little blurry this is the only picture of the two of us I have on my phone) My dad has taught me most of what I know in regards to working with my hands. He is also the reason for my passion in pocket knives ( he always carries a small Buck stockman) and fishing. Hes now retired and spends most of his time in the garage, doing what he loves best piddling. Lol
As a person from up North... it's funny to see a Santa Claus decoration and people wearing shorts ;)

I remember riding a bicycle on Christmas Day in 75 degree weather. In fact, have had many warm Christmases! Wish it would snow for just a few days around Christmas.

Well I don't mind that the GAW ended, I will share about my Dad. First of all... congrats to the winners and great GAW glennbad glennbad :)

My Dad passed away at age 69 around Christmas time in 2010 of esophageal cancer; I think he would still be with us if he hadn't been so stubborn about seeing a doctor. A simple upper endoscopy and some over the counter Prilosec may have done the trick. So those of you that read this with chronic heartburn or acid reflux, get an endoscopy and take some Prilosec or at least ranitidine, it's a small price to pay to keep acid reflux from killing you. Your family will appreciate it ;) Anyway, the internet is not big enough for me to explain in words everything that my Dad did for me and for all of those around him. It's funny that this thread bumped up when it did because last night I was looking through some of my pictures and came across this one from 1984, a clipping from the local newspaper.

This is me when I was 10. My grade school was closing down and we were being sent to a larger school 20 miles from home. They were having an open house to give the parents & students a chance to tour the school and meet the staff. The guy's hand that I am shaking was the Superintendent at the time, every 10 year old kids nightmare. What struck me when I was looking at this picture last night was my Dad's hand in the small of my back nudging me forward as if telling me... "Don't worry Son, you can do this..." I realized seeing this that the greatest thing my Dad ever did for me was to give me confidence to take on life and don't be afraid of it. To this day I can still feel his hand in the small of my back... nudging me on and saying "Don't worry Son, you can do this..." ;) Thanks Dad... we love you and miss you :)

Here is the only knife of his that I have along with his fur trading receipt from 1966

Thank you for sharing this Kevin!

At times, I'm not sure how I should gauge my relationship with my father. As the youngest of four kids, I always felt like I was always the last to the party. There were memories and things going on around me that I didn't know about or understand. My father was kind of an unknown quantity to me, a guy who was not mean, but was not overly gushing in his affection to any of us kids either. The two of us did things together later in life, like fishing, or working with him on a project at his house, but there wasn't a lot of back and forth banter. I'm not horribly chatty with my family members. My conversation is more "efficient", I say what I need to say without a lot of fluff. I guess that doesn't make me very fun socially, LOL.

Once you choose the knives, then we'll get to work on what to do with them. I'll probably post some WIP pics if the winners don't mind, so we can share the progress of each project.
I enjoyed reading the posts in this thread and look forward to seeing the WIP pictures.

Just saw the message Glennbad. The small Imperial jack with tipped bolsters looks like it would go great in the coin pocket!

Thanks for the contest! I'll have to visit my dad tomorrow.

Okay, we have the project knives all sorted out:

jblyttle - TL-29 mod, stag

Sabercat - Schrade Walden, some kind of bone, TBD

JoeGoblyn - Kutmaster, jigged hunter green bone (most likely)

Bigfattyt - Camillus stockman - amber jigged bone

I'll post some pics as things move along!

Between the holidays, "regular" production, work, etc., these knives were kinda slow out of the gate. I now have 2 on their way though, with the other 2 very close to complete. I'll post a few WIP pics when I get chance to, although as happens often, I get caught up in the work and forget to take WIP pics!

Also, if anyone else wants to share any stories, please do!

I actually just thought about this last week and wondered if I had missed the WIP updates. Hope to see some before/after shots, too.
